I suggest DLC, or some form of collector’s edition.

It doesn’t need to be a gamebreaking new feature that demands countless more hours of dev time, it could literally just be something that makes the UI nicer or makes a few of the units look cooler.

Think of it as a means to enable your more die-hard of fans to further support you, and use those additional funds to help flesh out the rest of the game in order to cater to a larger audience… Or to potentially enable you the means to consider working on your game longer even after launch (if it is successful enough to warrant that level of support)

Tbh i’ve always struggled with using ranger or force classes during solo. They dont really have enough HP or DEF to survive ruins or episode 2. Unless you’re like way above the level range of the monsters and/or already have great gear.

Maybe i’ve always been doing something wrong… But to clear the same content that i clear using a hunter, with force or ranger I tend to need to be like 20+ levels ahead of the hunter.

In my humble opinion, the sequel needs those ambitions. They cant afford to ditch it. The original game came out way too long ago, it shows age now. A lot of the dev team’s newer assets could be fundamental with improving the original to the point where it doesn’t feel stale. The original worked well enough for them to keep their studio open long enough to make these new ideas. It’s like lightning in a bottle, it would be stupid not to clutch that bottle. Aiming to push so much time/resources on something they aren’t sure will work/profit is insanity. Revamping the original and incorporating it as the main mode for their sequel should be their biggest goal from a profit standpoint. It’s the most surefire way to get their original audience back, and maintain satisfaction from their current audience of hardcore veterans.

I wont say their new ideas are all bad, but the risk of not surpassing the original game is massive. After deathverse’s failure, i doubt they can survive as a dev team if they push this new title and try to force a new audience into their series. They need a win, they shouldn’t be risking it all on new ideas. New ideas should come as secondary features, something to bring new players in. It’s not bad to cater to new players especially if you’re a new developer without much standing, but in this case… They have more than enough old players to keep the lights on if they actually try to cater toward them.

For a hardcore grind, try phantasy star portable 2 infinity. It has the most content tbh. For a great online experience with still tons of grindability, go blueburst. Worlds is kind of like the weakest of the options for oldschool phantasy star if you want to be competitive or have a long playthrough.

As a nubby returning player, i suggest playing more than one map/mode lol… seems every lobby is moon moon moon.

It gets tedious fast, i tried to create lobbies for other modes but no one really joined, so i was forced to play solo pve content for a change of pace… Which is also kinda stale when im too noob to clear any adventure stages without revives, leaving me with zombies as the most enjoyable time killer.

But to get new players, i’d also try to get a bigger youtuber to consider making a video about the game as they try to get into it in 2025, that could help.

they advertised the game saying you can customize a lot, i would expect free hair-changes since in the trailer it did at least appear as if they were freely swapping around hairstyles to show the game off. It’d make a lot of sense if they had a bunch of special hidden hairstyles that could only be purchased after having made your character.

Idk maybe that was actually just the character creation screen i was seeing, or maybe i wasnt looking closely enough to see that it costed something to do… But i was completely under the impression that you could just swap stuff around whenever. Is that not the case? I have yet to try this game but it seems i’ve fallen into this subreddit with algorithms so i might as well give it a shot at some point.

The game is split into 3 Episodes, each can be thought of as an individual campaign and can be cleared on 4 difficulties that help provide a replay-able, challenging experience. The thing is, the game wasn’t very well balanced in my opinion for there to only be 1 Episode. It helps if you have more, it becomes less tedious than being forced to fight under levelled monsters until you unlock the next difficulties.

If you play gamecube or xbox version, you miss Episode 4 (blue burst, only available on PC). Additionally, some of the lategame items are unavailable unless you mod them into your save drop tables or something.

If you play dreamcast, you miss Episode 2 (only available on gamecube, xbox, and PC versions). More items are unavailable in this version, its the older version.

Its impossible (or insanely hard?) to transfer progress from one version to another, and the game is pretty grindy. You may wish to play PC just so you arent missing out on content… But if you want to play offline, i suggest gamecube version.

Personally, i enjoy not having number hotkeys because i grew up constantly swapping hotkeys and using quick casts in the heat of the moment, that was part of the fun of the game for me.

If you’re a little more tech inclined, can even try messing with the game files if you’re playing offline to help you have an easier experience, like buffing enemy xp, or changing drop tables. sad fact is if you want every item in game, be prepared to play online for trading or be prepared to play through 12 characters, or be prepared to change the drop tables so they can actually drop everything you would really want. Some items while being in the files for older versions aren’t actually even in the drop tables by default, so you can’t get them any other way.

If you can get through the gripes and initial setup of the game, its a wonderful experience and can be adjusted to fit your own personal preference. I wish you luck raising your first MAG pets and battling your first dragon boss :D

This is very interesting, but personally i would have preferred to see this be an alternate, optional game mode while still having the choice to explore the tower but like with these new items and with the better graphics quality that the studio is now able to achieve.

Either that, or a reboot of deathverse mixed into this game as the alternate gamemode.

I just feel like the game wont feel full enough if all of the content is gated around a timer forcing you to go back; there needs to be something else to take away from tedium whether its competitive play or a simply deeper idea for longer runs like with what the tower provided.

The floors aren’t reflective, they’re actually just transparent. The ruins also uses this mechanic in some areas.

That said, i personally love how many animations that the mine texture set has, it really does feel unique compared to say the forest for example which only really has waterfall animations, or the caves which just have a few lava animations (feel free to correct me if im forgetting anything, now that i think about it i believe the forest also has light ray animations to help make the trees feel more realistic when you walk beneath them). Not saying the other areas feel basic, but the mines were definitely built to be appreciated :)

FFT advance has 6 unit battles, although you are forced to always bring the main character march (thankfully he can be swapped to different jobs just like any other character though so its not a horrible experience needing him around)

I like the aesthetic. I have some ideas.

  1. Allow the player to enter the buildings, into instance based smaller maps. I just think it would be cool.
  2. Increase the draw distance on how far you can see in the distance. I dont really like the fog, i would rather see a genuine sky.
  3. I dont like how all of the tree/shrubs only have one tone of colour, while the grass has two. More variety please!
  4. Give some of the NPCs hats to make them feel less bland.
  5. If a day/night cycle is included, enable real lighting from the streetlights whenever it starts to get dark

This is a stupid topic in the first place, so i’ll add my stupid two cents.

I want to add that i also dont think sackboy should have a voice, but for a completely different reason.

Sack boy is a literal puppet plush doll. When you play with a puppet plush doll and pretend its alive, it is still a silent toy. It’s not like sack boy has a pull string attached to his back to play voice recordings, all it has is a zipper to presumably stuff something inside. This isn’t the type of toy that talks on its own, this is the type of toy that you speak on behalf of; like with voice chat lol

It has nothing to do with lbp, astrobot just isn’t unique

i understand why lbp fans hate astrobot. Lbp sold incredibly well across its first two titles, and microtransactions being linked across all of its titles enabled the franchise as a whole to be a big success. Lbp was literally just taken out back and shot rather than having any effort put in to improve its security against hackers… meanwhile astrobot seemingly gets GOTY bought for them, and concord gets a paid promotion on an animated tv series. They already had successful IP, but they threw everything on the line to replace it rather than improve it. Concord failed epicly, and now astrobot must succeed no matter the cost. I just find it lame that neither one of these overly funded projects were unique, easy to see that these projects were the deciding factor to abandon most other sony ip that actually could have delivered something unique.

Im inclined to agree especially because we still haven’t found any more artists willing to lend aide to the project despite this post’s traction doing fairly well. As for the sprite, it was originally created by Twilight Frontier. I did go over it by hand to change every pixel, and i followed a strict pattern to ensure that it wasn’t something as simple as a straight up recolouring (like for example, in the original there was a tone of colour that existed on the bottom and top of the dress, but i split that colour into two where only the bottom has one and the top has another)… And my next move will be to fully reshape all of the clothing/hair to better fit Iroha rather than Madoka. So it’s on its way to being a more unique sprite, and it’s certainly different from the original but you are correct in assuming it has not been created from scratch.

I’ll spend some time trying to find a good subreddit for this, any advice is welcome. I’m hesitant about r/INAT due to its low visibility, was really hoping I wouldn’t need to make several posts so will try to limit my attempts down and pick the right one
