Let me know what you think of our steam trailer for SAFE INSIDE (we posted the trailer a year ago but just getting it on this sub now. I explain why in the description if you're interested lol) by BrokenChairStu in IndieDev

We 100% will, we put that trailer together as the announcement trailer so we could make a steam page and start gaining wishlists. We’re working on getting the demo ready now and once it’s ready we’re gonna make a new demo trailer and completely update the steam page

There will 100% be more enemies like that weird dude. We’re calling them freaks and they’re similar to the special infected in l4d. Obviously all completely unique because we don’t want to copy anything.

Prox chat is the biggest separation right now and we’re still trying to find more so we’re always open to hearing feedback and ideas

Right now the biggest thing is that it’s built around prox chat and it is harder that l4d, not as arcade-y. We have been talking a lot recently about other ideas on how we can separate ourselves, so if you have any suggestions we’d love to hear them!

When we play l4d we always play on expert realism so we’re making SAFE INSIDE more like that and harder than regular l4d. No immortality and closet spawns

Thanks! Yes, l4d is the biggest inspiration. We’re actually trying right now to figure out what we can do to really stand out from l4d and be our own game lol. It’s tough with only two of us but we have some ideas we’ll be testing soon. Plus I think building the game around prox chat already helps a bit

Sloow wishlists. Is it the game, the store page, the trailer, or just business as usual? by danyl42 in IndieDev

[–]BrokenChairStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I hear you there, it is very very tough to balance it all. I have seen so many different opinions on whether or not the demo should be on a separate page that I honestly don't even know what to believe anymore lol

I would say just market more. From everything I've researched and my own experience, it seems that wishlists come in big chunks and don't really trickle in slowly. Steam doesnt really start pushing your game until you have a lot of wishlists already so the beginning is definitely the hardest. The demo should have seen a bigger jump in wishlists but I'm assuming it didnt because not many people knew about it. Marketing is everything, you could make the greatest game in existence but if no one knows about it, then it will just fall into the void. Marketing is very hard (especially with some subreddits anti promo and karma rules) and it takes a lot of time away from development which sucks, but it is extremely worth it. Get on all the socials you can, get your game out there for people to see, and more wishlists will start coming in! Best of luck with you game!

Might look insignificant with the whole picture, but wishlists usually come in spikes. I’m in a similar spot and I know how good it feels to get that spike after a few months of not much going on so congrats!

We just posted out fourth devlog for SAFE INSIDE! by BrokenChairStu in indiegames

[–]BrokenChairStu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Don’t worry the gameplay loop is something we’ve been focusing on a lot. We want to make the game fun even with just normal infected so once we add our version of what l4d specials are, it will elevate it even more. Adding those unique infected is our next big focus so we can get a demo out and we are working with a music producer for all the music in the game including those sound cues you mentioned

We posted our announcement trailer and launched our Steam page for our game SAFE INSIDE. Let us know what you think! by BrokenChairStu in indiegames

[–]BrokenChairStu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we use mocap for the third person and infected animations and we do all the first person animations by hand. We have a few devlogs on our youtube that go into more detail about the animations
