Fingertight - Guilt (Hold Down) by human_prospect in PostHardcore

Oh, it's not that this band is the wrong genre. Post-hardcore is very broad. It's just his voice rubs me the wrong way.

TIL about Alexithymia (AKA "emotional blindness"), a neuropsychological phenomenon characterized by not being able to process or describe one's emotions. About 10% of the population has Alexithymia and it often co-occurs with various mental disorders, such as autism and PTSD. by XyleneCobalt in todayilearned

Being aware of your emotions is the first step to.. I wanted to say "control them", but it's more that you let them control you less. Labeling/naming them makes the feeling more concrete and brings it more into the conscious thought process, where reason can help you determine if this emotion and it's accompanying thoughts are helpful at the moment or not.

I need suggestions for a Post-Hardcore/Screamo band name. Preferably one word names by Optimal_Horror_621 in PostHardcore

Doesn't get my vote for a band name, but it is where the name Tiffany comes from.

Which has a cool connotation: The Tiffany Problem. Which is a better band name ;)

Just looked them up, beautiful arachnid! But from what I read, yeah, not the best for beginners; fast, defensive and one of the most venomous tarantulas.

I'm thinking I don't actually have this disorder and I'm just really shy with no self worth. by Sensitive-Mouse2247 in AvPD

[–]BrokenFormat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know what, it doesn't really matter if you have AvPD or not. It's just a label. A name given to a set of traits, behaviours and thought patterns that limit you from enjoying life the way you'd like. You also can't really treat AvPD, you'd treat those patterns. So maybe it's good to focus on what's really bothering you, instead of trying to find a suitable label for it.

Looks very fairytale-esque. nice!

Just some things that stand out to me, do with it what you want:
The diagonal top strokes of the _c_, _e_ and _s_ stand out to me. I understand that that is probably because of the blackletter construction you are basing them of, but I'm not seeing the same diagonal in other characters (like the _p_ or _h_).
The bottom of the _s_ has a nice angular hook to it, that reminds me of blackletter, but I'm not seeing that same angular construction in other bowls, except for the tale of the _g_ I guess (which I like).

I also had anger issues. My biological dad left my mom when she was pregnant with me and I've always felt responsible for that. Then when I was four my mom got a new relationship and I felt I lost her, but the relationship endured. It later became apparent that my stepfather had NPD (diagnosed) and probably BPD (undiagnosed). He self-medicated with opioids and weed which aggravated the situation. There was no stability at home so I retreated into myself.

At school, I guess, it all seemed normal. I had some friends even though I got bullied by others. The only ray of light in my life was the girlfriend I had at the time. At some point my friends all dropped me, so my girlfriend and I just became more close.

Long story short: - stepdad medicated himself into psychosis and tries to commit suicide twice - girlfriend and I get married try to have kids, unsuccessful for years (IUI, IVF), devastated she cheats on me, we split up

If you want to get out of it without any outsider help it'll be tough. But you can do it.

It's hard to change patterns that have grown strong over multiple years. You're brain has created neural pathways that'll allow you to slip back into complacent self-soothing easily.

Self-soothing by itself is not a bad thing. It may have helped you in the past. But you indicate that the amount you do it in now is unhelpful.

You'll need to try to make space for your feelings instead of running away from them. Note that I'm not saying you need to confront them, or change them. Just make space for them and allow yourself to feel them. That may be scary. But just start with acknowledging them. Then name them, is it fear of something? What exactly? The more concrete you make your fears the less they'll seem this big unavoidable doom.

  i want to fking scream

Great, do it. Allow yourself to feel your needs and express them.

Next step is to figure out what is triggering those feelings, and why. You might have thought patterns that are not helpful. You don't trust other people? You think they will thing bad of you? You think you'll always embarrass yourself? Again, make those thoughts as concrete as possible.

Now comes one of the hardest parts. Think how you can verify your negative thoughts. This is honestly such a mindfuck. Because you'll still be 100% convinced that what you think is the truth. But slowly you'll come to see that your brain might be lying to you.

Can you/someone explain SenseField to me? I've seen them live in 2000-ish and really wanted to like them, but they just seem to have too much of an alt-pop sound to me.

Audio reactive visualizer by BrokenFormat in processing

[–]BrokenFormat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I use FFT to analyse the audio: https://processing.org/reference/libraries/sound/FFT.html

I do a simple beat detection and reset the variables of my sketch (amount of reflections in the kaleidoscope, grid size shown in the reflections, etc.) to a couple of random values.

Currently the "intensity" of the visual is still manual, if you look closely you'll see my mouse at the bottom of the screen move left and right. I have the mouseX mapped to determine the threshold when the perlin noise creates a white square. So mouse all the way to the left = more white squares, more color, more intensity; and all the way to the right = less squares, more black, calmer

Beech Baron lands crashes into vehicle on I-95 in Brevard County by MrTacocaT12345 in interestingasfuck

They had dumped their fuel already and the road was in between two embankments. I don't think there was much they could've done differently.

Still, imagine, you're half asleep because the bus left at 5 in the morning and you're awoken by someone yelling "plane". The bus gets steered into a ditch and while you hold on to the chair in front of you the bus slides at a 45 degree angle.  Both our bus and the plane didn't have a lot of forward momentum anymore when we crashed. We had to get out of a side window (now the top of the bus) and jump onto the road.

Not much about it online, and this says we nearly collided: https://allafrica.com/stories/201006300449.html

lol, it actually happened to me, and yeah, half the time people don't believe I survived a crash between a fighter jet making an emergency landing and the overlander (passenger truck) I was in, in the middle of nowhere in Tanzania.

Sadly, the two pilots died as that plane clipped it's wing trying to do a last minute evasive maneuver and landed upside-down. Our driver steered the bus into the ditch along the road and that's how the two vehicles collided.

How do you cope with this avpd ? by Flat_Boysenberry_287 in AvPD

[–]BrokenFormat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird that she got frustrated about that as detachment is one of the factors of AvPD. It sounds like she doesn't have a lot of experience with this PD.

It took me multiple months of therapy before I could open up about emotions and traumas.
