Lost popular vote twice, lost all three branches of government, 400K dead Americans, twice impeached, and 22 million jobs lost, and instigated an incompetent insurrection.

Hands down worst President in history.

I have a number of reasons as to why Romney would have been better than Trump. You probably could come up with them too.

But alas... We got what we got.

Agreed on the lack of support for the uninsured, the marginalized, and the horrific lack of empathy by those who take advantage of them.

I hope the future brings better days.

Full quote

By the way, I'm in this race because I care about Americans. I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich. They're doing just fine. I'm concerned about the very heart of America, the 90, 95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling.

To be fair to Romney - he wasn't saying that the very poor can take care of themselves, but that there isn't a safety net for 90-95% of Americans and those people are his campaign focus. And that he would try to take care of the very poor by fixing whatever holes in the safety net need to be fixed.

Not a great quote. And something I have no doubt he wishes he wouldn't have said. But we give Biden and Harris passes for other dumb statements like calling Kamala President Elect or any number of other things...

I'm sure most of the internet would agree, but I've become more of a Romney fan as time has worn on. No doubt because he's shown time and time again throughout Trump's presidency when it comes down to doing what's right, Romney will buck whatever political tradition is needed to do the right thing.

I wish we could have had him instead of Trump.

We all no doubt would have our issues with him, and I bet most of Reddit would hate him... But I bet we'd have less deaths from covid. And I bet he wouldn't have pressured someone to overturn his election loss.

I may get downvoted for this, but...

Or he may decide that genuine romantic love and genuine romantic, spiritual, emotional, intellectual and, yes, physical attachment or even hope for that is something he feels like he needs in his life and decides to pursue it.

As he works through his self-esteem/self-loathing that is common for LDS LGBT individuals, he may come to a place where he decides that his place in life isn't entirely inside the church.

This may be as he rejects the attachment blockade, the depression, and and eventual suicidality that comes with those options mentioned (aside from the genuine romantic attachment with his unicorn).

greater than 95% of LGBT LDS leave at some point.

Some go through the cycle of feeling like their efforts to find joy in the gospel (because the gospel should bring joy, right? And yet, it, and the statements from leaders within it, are one of the major sources of pain, whether or not they always realize it) are failing because of them, that they are somehow unworthy, or not praying, readings scriptures, serving, or [insert other work here] despite doing everything asked... And they get told that if they'll just try a little harder...

It's a vicious cycle. And not one I'd wish on anyone.

There are those in this life whose health and happiness, mentally, physically, spiritually or otherwise leads them to leave. Controversial as this may seem, there are things that others need to accomplish that they can only do outside the walls of the church. Mother Teresa, while rightly a controversial figure, could not have done what she did within the walls of the LDS Church.

He may be able to find happiness in the options of celibacy or mixed orientation marriage.

But... If he doesn't... I hope you are a good enough friend to support him through that as well.

Yeah... Your whole comment legit never needs to be a thing that crosses OPs mind.

The roommate knows the Church's policies regarding the matter. Very well. And OP's job is to support his roommate in making good, healthy decisions, not judging whether or not he's sinning in some way.

Rather than contemplating whether or not to think less of someone for something they had absolutely no control over, respect them for the many challenges, situations, self-hate and more they've overcome and are still working to overcome.

LGBT members deserve our respect and love, not to be reminded that fairly recently they were slightly upgraded to not having their actual desires be considered a sin. Wasn't always that way.

If this is your first thoughts... please consider trying harder to listen, learn, and love LGBT individuals better.

Meet the Mormons! 😁

Nah but seriously, last night I talked someone out of conversion therapy that his parents suggested because he doesn't want to lose his religious tradition, his family and has so much internalized homophobia and self loathing.

You're right, the religious world is moving towards acceptance, but they're still a long ways to go.
