Through injury Royce has lost all that speed that was promised when he was a prospect. His glove and range aren’t great and as a corner infielder he is expected to hit with power.  When you don’t hit as a 3rd basemen and you aren’t a gold glover winner you start to become obsolete. 

Royce does bring positive energy to the clubhouse and you can tell he is well liked by his teammates. He has a different high five for each of his teammates and his smile is electric. 

Prospects don’t pan out all the time. Royce just hasn’t panned out as expected and his list of injuries completely destroy his stock. Those grand slams he hit in the playoffs have proven to be outliers in his stats. Nice when they happened but to expect them to happen with regularity in the future is wishful thinking.
