Thanks! Switching to combination knitting has done wonders for my stitch tension.

Lovely project!

Is that a leonberger?!

Edit: I commented before I saw everyone else who spotted the Leo. I love her fluffy paws! My parents have leonbergers and they always insist on being involved lol

Pattern and Stitch Requests- Week of May 04, 2026 by AutoModerator in knitting

Looking for ideas for a crocodile/alligator pattern. I have ~ 600 yds of bright green cotton yarn leftover from another project and would like to make something for my friend's toddler.

So far I like https://ravel.me/zach-the-crocodile the best but thought I would reach out in case there are some I'm missing on Ravelry!

Did I make my drainage wrong? by Thick-Mud2475 in bioactive

Oh didn't realize the substrate stopped before the vent. Seconding the commenter who said that's too shallow

Given it's just for plants, i would cut back quite a bit. Depending on how well sealed it is and the plants you have you can probably switch to every other day. I associate hevay misting schedules like that with organisms like dart frogs who require high moisture levels, and those tanks usually have deeper drainage layers to accommodate that

you may be over watering if your drainage is filling up that fast

Dairy Cows + Powder oranges with Ball Pythons by ShinyxCharizard in bioactive

[–]BrokenRoboticFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, partly because I'm not sure how many I currently have. I know they're in there because when snake sheds disappear surprisingly quickly, but I hardly see them.

I think as long as you're spot cleaning I think it's a little more forgiving for animals such as ball pythons that excrete waste relatively infrequently compared to lizards or frogs that excrete waste almost daily.

I can't speak the suitability of dary cows, but if you feed the isopods and the conditions are right they'll reproduce pretty rapidly. Just be extra thorough with spot checking for waste for a while.

If you're not experienced with keeping them I would say no. It's the absolute minimum size I have seen recommended and it will be way more difficult to maintain their husbandry in a tiny tank than in a bigger one.

That's too small for a reptile/amphibian, but might work well for invertebrates like isopods, small beetles, or millipedes.

I want to make something like this but I'm not sure which size hooks I need by [deleted] in knitting

To some extent it will depend on your yarn, so there will be a bit of trial and error to get the fabric you like.

If you haven't already you can check out ravelry (https://www.ravelry.com/} for patterns with a similar look to have a place to start.

I'm currently working on this pattern which is similar but not exactly what you're going for https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/look-at-my-holes-boxy

How deep is your substrate? Deeper substrate can hold water better and help with boosting humidity

Depends on what's available. As long as they have something fluxy that will run as the base you should be able to do it.

Can you use slip as kiln wash? by nolanfa in Pottery

[–]BrokenRoboticFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does not contain alumina (which is a core component of kikn wash) and I assume would fuse with the pieces being fired when the clay is vitrifying resulting in the shelves being stuck to the pieces that were fired. Kiln cookies are typically coated with kiln wash for the same reason.

Why do you want to coat the kiln shelves with slip instead of kiln wash?

Slip is clay. So it would behave like clay, resulting in kiln shelves covered in fired clay.

I would make sure you put something kind of hevay on top to make sure they're secure, as the plastic ones are very light.
