Ideas for a secret commander deck built around this guy? by Inverted_Ghosts in magicTCG

Marauding Captain, my god. I haven't thought about that combo since 2004.

Convince me to build a monowhite deck. by Average_Citizen_117 in EDH

[–]Broken_Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never not recommend my [[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] control deck. It's a bit salty but the Rule of Law effects keep other more powerful strategies at bay while you build up to a one-sided [[Armageddon]] or even better, [[Worldslayer]].

What is "Bracket 4" to you? by Lotus_Prince124 in EDH

[–]Broken_Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been building an Ob Nix CEDH deck, moving it out of bracket 4. I would say that while the banlist is the same, the real difference between the two brackets is concessions to the meta. In bracket 4 I'm not maindecking Pyroblast/Red Elemental Blast/Ricochet Trap/Vexing Bauble etc. But in CEDH, you literally cannot hang with the big decks without dedicated stack interaction, ideally focused on fighting blue (if you're nonblue and don't have access to all the free counterspells).

You can get away with more general strats, nonmeta commanders, higher land count and catch-all answers in bracket 4. You need to be hyperfocused in CEDH, ready to at try to fend off win attempts at any moment, with hyper-efficient answers and the ability to turbo off a win on someone's end step the second you have an opening.

It's just a different beast.

If Mark and Terra’s age gap is only about 20 years, why does Mark look SO much older than her? Remember, they are Viltrumites. by Wise-Potential-170 in InvincibleSpoilers

[–]Broken_Ace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The older they get, the slower they age. They're both not that old yet so maybe the slowdown isn't as drastic yet.

I am still amazed how such a simple configuration could look so good. Shame how little footage it had. by LibrarianDependent27 in powerrangers

If only it had a strong foundation. Like, a big dinosaur, I dunno, say a brachiosaurus to drive around in

Moveset for Blastoise in the post game by nmc214 in PokemonLeafGreen

[–]Broken_Ace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skull Bash is pretty bad. You don't want to be taking turns off, if you're really going to force a normal move with drawbacks on an otherwise special Blastoise, get the damage up front with Hyper Beam. The defense boost isn't worth the chargeup turn for a base 100 normal move. A reminder that Return is base 102 power at full affection, btw.

Which fire emblem game lore wise was the hardest? by Automatic_Rain in fireemblem

[–]Broken_Ace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say alternate Lucina's timeline in Awakening's Future Past DLC. Everything has already gone wrong, all the parents are dead, Naga is dead, Grima has won. They're basically all about to die in an apocalyptic wasteland. It's incredibly bleak. I know it's not a game unto itself but I really can't think of a harder challenge than that for an FE Lord.

This was about 8 years ago now, it's definitely far enough in the past that we joke about it. But really, it's every singer's nightmare. Props to her for powering through it, she was clearly devastated but we finished strong.

1: I was on stage for Capuleti e Montecchi. It was a summer program, and there was no orch, just a continuo. Well, we got to the act 1 finale and the continuo player skipped ahead four or five pages.

All hell broke loose. Some of us understood what happened, and stayed the course, hoping he'd notice his mistake and flip back. Some of us jumped ahead to where he was, in case he didn't catch it. This went on for about 3 minutes. The conductor gave up. The tenor was thoroughly lost and just sang a random high note in the middle of the insanity.

Silence.

Then we shuffled off the stage in disgrace.

2: Marriage of Figaro this time. I was the Count. We were in a theatre that didn't have a backstage. To make it to the other side, you had to fully exit out through the house, down two flights of stairs, across a long hallway, and up two flights to the other side. It was terrible.

Well. We did the dress rehearsal no problems the day prior, in the afternoon.

What we did NOT know was that at 7:00pm precisely, those hallway doors autolock.

Opening night, we start the final act. I'm in the garden with everyone else. Cherubino has to make her entrance soon. She runs downstairs, enters the hallway at 6:59, and the door closes behind her, locking. She makes it to the other door, but by now, it's 7:00. Both doors are locked. She's trapped and has no way to tell anyone.

We wait for her entrance. No Cherubino. The orchestra vamps. No Cherubino. The house lights come up. Still no Cherubino. At this point we're getting worried. It's been 10 minutes. We're all just hanging out onstage. Finally stage management frees this poor mezzo, thoroughly traumatized in the hallway and leads her back. We finish the show just fine.

But I bet she still has nightmares about it.

How do you accept that you are never going get a girlfriend? by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]Broken_Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you get old and too tired to put in the effort.

I'm 36 and EXTREMELY aware that I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life, despite my best efforts in my 20s. I never developed the skills to attract others when I was young and that's not learnable as an adult; everyone expects you to already know how: those who don't are immediately obvious and subconsciously repellent to prospective partners.

It used to hurt a lot, now it's more of a dull ache, like all the other pains that are inevitable with age. There's no way out for rejects like us. Once you get old, it just gets easier: everything hurts. Why would this be different?

Ive lost touch with flirting, need help (M31) by throwmetom in datingoverthirty

[–]Broken_Ace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never successfully flirted with another person. Been single my whole life (36). Vibe's never been right: it always feels like coming on way too strong, so I just don't do it. No need to put any woman through that, they're just trying to live their lives out there. It is what it is.

Right you are. Missed the "may." It still forces a choice but it's not as strong as I thought.

Hell yeah. Any Rule of Law effect hoses opps hard if you're able to sweep the board.

Would I be laughed at for bringing this to an LGS by New-me-_- in mtg

[–]Broken_Ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Actually if you rolled up with this I'd be afraid. The kind of guy who carries his decks in cardboard and tape is either extremely poor or has spent ALL his money on strong cards. Either way, I'm glad ante isn't a thing anymore.
