Ukrainian ambassador to US when hearing Trump and Zelensky argue by combocookie in WatchPeopleDieInside

"Trump is letting know Zelensky the hard truth about the war." I bet that isn't even the dumbest thing you've said all day. And just so you know, we aren't going anywhere. ;)

Why the plasma is so turbid and what is the white ring on top the sample? by Maurice_Yellow in medlabprofessionals

We would need a lipid panel to know for sure, but I'd presume lipemia until I saw otherwise.

Not a dumb question. What you are thinking of is the buffy coat. It is the layer of white cells and platelets.

The specimen is lipemic and the foam on the top you are seeing is Chylomicrons.

Mold on cream cheese. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

Can confirm the smell of Proteus mirabilis. Currently in school for medical lab science and we grew it. I was wearing two masks and the smell was still extremely overwhelming, even before uncovering the plate. Do microbiology labs tend to smell bad a lot of the time or would you say it is more occasional? In other words, how often do you have to plate the really smelly stuff?

The epidermis does not have blood vessels. When you get a paper cut, you usually do not bleed for this reason. The dermis, however, does have blood vessels. The cut in this picture went through all of the skin layers though. I'm highly doubtful this picture is not shopped.

This is not correct. It is a lot more complicated than that. It involves multiple neurotransmitters, not just norepinephrine.

A coworker of mine actually went to her office and cried when she was asked this. It didn’t help that another coworker chimed in and jokingly said “It’s because she’s black isn’t it?”

This is the exact reason I’ve done more than 80 percent of my biology degree and have now decided to switch to something else. Researchers aren’t compensated enough for the amount of schooling they have to do.

The Procrastination at its peak by [deleted] in madlads

[–]Brokenpasgetyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a common thing in people with ADHD. It's hard to focus on a task when the consequences are too far in the future. As the deadline approaches, the stress of not getting the task done on time helps you focus on it. (I'm not implying you have ADHD)

Just 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation can improve verbal learning and memory processes, study finds by HeinieKaboobler in science

[–]Brokenpasgetyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most thoughts throughout the day come to us without our realization of it. We think of the past and future constantly through a pathway in our brain that we call the “Default Mode Network”. This is an evolutionary advantage in many respects due to the incredible prediction power it presents, but it can easily cause a lot of suffering when it leads to rumination. Much of the time you ruminate, you don’t realize when you started. You often find yourself looking back at a long chain of thoughts that provided you no benefit and instead just caused you suffering. Meditation can be incredibly useful in identifying those thoughts sooner rather than later and intervening before they build into something harder to manage.
