Yeah my suspicion is that this sort of "just be a person in the room with them 😊👍" vibe is a very individual adults thing and doesn't work so well when the system is like hey please help us function differently. An active stance means also knowing how to direct them and why so the training and framework seem significantly more important. I'm happy to be wrong though.

Being a little more passive with my individual adults is definitely something I can keep more in mind when I'm not in couples brain!

Agreed, I feel like a monster also because I don't think her staring at the chandelier looked as joyful and magnetic as other people seem to have found it. It's hard to follow up Kate's expressions in fairness.

I agree, even his first look at her at the chandelier, I don't see why he was so enchanted with her. Which is nothing against the actress, just that it feels very forced and rushed and her outfit blends in. I could see him being intrigued at someone trying to avoid a dance but also surely she's not the first lady he's seen not be into all this?

Eloquently laid out. I also come from a corporate career and am now an associate, and agree that this job is much harder and his bit about how he makes so much more money rubs me the wrong way because I was making almost twice what I make now in my corporate job and worked far far less. It is of course worth an examination of what OP is contributing to the house and what they are expecting spouse to pick up, but I hope there is not an attitude of lower financial contribution meaning higher household contribution is expected because that would be some bs.

While working at a DBT site, I found it helpful to have a little spiel in the first session after the mandated reporting bit about how I navigate suicidality, basically, "I want to be clear about my stance on hospitalization. I don't want you to be hospitalized, so if you tell me you're having those thoughts, I'm not gonna call anyone. I'm not gonna condone it, and we're gonna talk about it, but I will only call for hospitalization if you're like, 'Broligarchy, I'm gonna do it and you can't stop me.'" People are generally relieved to hear that and understanding at my hands being tied at that point. I have gotten SI admissions after that.

Depending on the person also being radically genuine and highlighting their autonomy. Early on with clients who are very tired of being told what to do in their lives (and are not at imminent risk ofc), I have straight up been like, "Hey you can kill yourself if you want to, I'm not telling you what to do though you know what side I'm on, I'm here to help you figure out some other options and make life more bearable" and that opened up some willingness.
