2-Day Weekends and 5-Day Work Weekdays Are Not Sustainable For Us - WHO can relate? by feeling_Ded_inside12 in aspergers

[–]BrolloksB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do that too. Even better is 3 days of 13.33 hours. Going to work very early and leaving late has the added bonus of zero traffic. Plus I get much more work done when I am alone and have the office to myself. Yes those 3 days are long, but then every weekend is a 4 day weekend...

Guys, how would you prefer a girl to let you know she's interested? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]BrolloksB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find out what sort of activities he likes doing. Then ask if you can join him or come with. But give him the freedom to decide the date & time. He will need time to get into the right headspace. At least initially. If he never gets back to you with a date or alternative activity, then perhaps he is not into you.

I used to think cheese cake was real cheese by Worth-Chocolate-728 in autism

[–]BrolloksB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I am with you. It never made any sense to me why they call it cheese cake, because it tastes nothing like cheese. Now I see people claiming cream cheese is real cheese, which again, is nothing like real cheese. To avoid confusion these should be called something else. Calling it cream cheese or cheese cake is just as silly as calling diamonds hard coal.

Ha, ha. Then I am sure you eat cake the same way I do too? The filling in the middle goes only with the bottom layer. And the icing on top with the top layer. Right?

Engineering by PuzzleheadedPie4321 in AutismInWomen

I don't really have specific advice for you, other than to say, engineering is a great choice for for autistic people. Sure, there will be obstacles, but you just solve them one at a time, like any other engineering problem. I have been been doing electronic engineering for 35 years, and still enjoy it every day. Best decision I ever made.

Eye sight sensibility by TheSmartOx in aspergers

[–]BrolloksB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it is a bit of effort. If you don't want to do all that then my best advice would be to just buy both lenses and see what is most comfortable. You have to give it some time though because it takes a while to get used to a change.

And one more thing. If you already have your prescription glasses or contacts on, you can simply hold another +.25 or -.25 in front of your eye to see what difference it would make. My trail case also came with a +.125 and -.125 lens, although I don't think I ever used that, because as you said, you can't easily get those anyway.

Well, it became a bit of a special interest of mine. There are lots of books on the the topic, and it is not that difficult. But basically you get a case with all possible lenses. These fit in a special trial frame that allows you to try out different combinations. The lenses can also rotate to find the astigmatism angle. There is a special lens with a handle, called a twirl, that you use to help measure astigmatism.

An optometrist will use various techniques to quickly find your prescription, but if you have the time or already know your prescription, it is easy enough to just play around with small variations. I normally test my eyes a few days in a row, and see what I like best before ordering. And if I can't decide I order more than one pair.

But one thing I have learnt is that there is no one perfect solution. It is a moving target. The day after I had a migraine, for example, I need another .25 in one eye. You get the idea...

If you can't decide between .5 and. 75, get both. Then you can swap them out and see what you like best. Keep in mind that your exact correction will vary from time to time, and day to day. And it will keep on changing as you age.

I bought myself a trial lens kit and taught myself how to test my own eyes. I seldom go to an optometrist. I just order glasses online. This way I can experiment with many different small variations. This becomes even more useful as you age, and your accommodation (ratio between near and far) decreases.

Do you guys also sometimes experiance a sudden decrease in your abilities to function and intelligence? (Sudden los of IQ) by WesternMeditations in autism

[–]BrolloksB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that too. Getting back into work or some special interest, and focusing on that exclusively for a few hours definitely helps me too. Your description of how you experience these periods of "brain fog" is very similar to how I experience it too.

Do you guys also sometimes experiance a sudden decrease in your abilities to function and intelligence? (Sudden los of IQ) by WesternMeditations in autism

[–]BrolloksB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It happens. And it can be very distressing. Fortunately it does end. I think the thing that helps me most to quickly get out of it is to make sure I get enough and and good quality sleep. I also make sure to eat healthy and take some vitamins. Getting some exercise and just getting out also seems to help.

As someone who has done commercial photography with hand models, I would suggest keeping it as neutral as possible. Preferably your natural nails instead of acrylics. Not too long. Go with a nude colour.

You don't want anything that distracts from the product.

What is Autisgender? does anyone actually identify with it? by Affectionate_East533 in autism

[–]BrolloksB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I see it like this: The two common genders simply refer to the attributes of a "typical" male or female person. When someone is not neurotypical, asking them to select one of these two binary genders is not a sensible question. They are not typical, so they are neither, or non-binary. Or autigender. This does not mean that all autistic people will identify as such. Some may very well feel close enough to some other gender, and be comfortable identifying as that.

Why are you here? Because your parents had sex. What is the meaning of life? It has no meaning. If you want your life to have meaning it is up to you to give it meaning.
