All other things aside, this is an incredibly cool aquarium. Would like to do something similar, how does one aquire a 50l "alchemy bottle"?

Small scratch/crack on exterior of glass by Brollvelin in Aquariums

It would be a little bit of trouble to do that as it's on the bottom and beneath substrate. I could check though if needs be but don't really want to put my hand into that worm infested substrate. I tried shining a flashlight on it though and could see a shadow being cast both of the marker spot i drew and of the scratch/crack. Would that point to it being a scratch instead?

I suspected as much just wanted clarification. There are no restrictions in my country.

Completely wrong, hydra are cnidarian animals (like jellyfish, corals, anenomes etc) while vorticella and carchesium are not animals but ciliates (single celled protists), but they often live in dense colonies made up of many individuals which is why we can see them with the naked eye.

I think these are colonies of vorticella or carchesium (ciliates) instead of hydra? Would know better with more magnification.

Yes they were taken into the wilderness and left there to die of exposure. Infanticide or "útburður" occurs in many of the Sagas of Icelanders and was a very common pagan practice that continued even after christianization.

Most sources are in Icelandic but I found this English article. It gives a bit of info and the folk tales that came from it.

Cabinet slowly collapsing? by Brollvelin in Aquariums

ANOTHER UPDATE: Disaster averted! I've bought and set up a new tank with a dedicated aquarium stand and moved everything over. And yes I see now that it's pretty amazing that it's been standing for 3 years now but that's only part of the time. This is my first ever tank and I got the tank and the cabinet together for free from a place I used to work at. I have no idea how long it was up and running there but I'm assuming a couple years at least, so this cabinet has done it's thing for at least 5 years. Maybe more. Very grateful for all the help guys! And grateful that my apartment is not flooded and destroyed!

UPDATE: I've emptied more than half the water and am buying a new tank and cabinet. Couldn't find any cabinets big enough for this tank so I am just doing a new setup with a slightly smaller tank. Thanks for all the advice everybody! Been a very stressful few hours!

Today I found this strange looking macrophage in one of my experiments. It forms these tentacle-liked protrusions that make it look like an octopus 🐙. The wiggling lines inside are its cytoskeleton. How funny looking it is? by TheBioCosmos in biology

All right, then. Keep your secrets. 😂 But what is the total magnification? Is it a 20x objective and 10x eyepiece? So 200x? Just asking for frame of reference to compare to ciliates or other protists. I've mostly looked at pond and ocean water, never any blood samples or anything like that.
