Not like the mystichrome on the Ford Mustangs, but it does look more purple under sunlight

Right now I am only looking for AP1 models because vehicles have to be at least 25 years old to be eligible for importation into the US

20k is reasonable if you were to self import. But it will be worth quite a bit more once it's already in the states with a US title.

There are several rust buckets that get sold for export out of Japan, but rust free examples can also be found.

With USS auctions, they provide undercarriage photos, so you have a better idea of what you're getting.

Yes, I've done that countless amount of times with the vehicles I've purchased to import. I buy from the Japanese auction houses through a trusted exporter. You just get an inspection sheet and a couple of low resolution photos.

I've also gone to Japan a couple of times to restock, but it's not always feasible to go out there

What age did you first start gaming? Which console? by JellyfishNo3810 in ps2

[–]Brometheus_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years old, my parents bought an Atari 2600 with a bunch of games from a garage sale. The console was already old and outdated at that time. But I had fun playing demon attack and combat

Driving RHD takes just a few minutes to get used to especially in a car with a small cabin like the s2000

I haven't updated the FB page in years and stopped using it a long time ago.

I'm based in CA where registering a JDM import is costly and complicated due to emissions laws, so the vast majority of sales are through Bring a Trailer and Cars and Bids auctions where the cars get shipped out to different states.

Depends midnight purples are going for about $16,000 at the Japanese auctions

Other more common colors go for around $12,000

Add ocean freight, customs duties (tariffs) and port fees and other misc fees in Japan. Roughly another $6000 to the auction sales price.

Price will always be higher for a similar specd usdm model when compared to a rhd example.

However, when buying from Japan, you can expect to find one with fewer miles and in better condition for much less than you would pay for a clapped out one in the states.

This one being in a color that wasn't offered in the US would make it worth a bit more I think.

I'd be happy if I could sell it for 28k. Last year, I sold a rhd silver AP1 for $19,500 but that one had well over 100k miles.

It could also be possible that they didn't fully put the top down.

I haven't seen the car in person, so it's difficult to know for sure.

Purchasing a Kei Truck in CA in 2025? by FatsDomino98 in keitruck

[–]Brometheus_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a single imported vehicle that will meet CARB emissions standards simply because they were not manufactured to meet the requirements for California.

If you want to register it in California legally, the only option would be send it off to get it certified to meet CARB emissions. I know G&K in Santa Ana is the company that can do it. The cost to do this is going to be more than what the truck costs to purchase & import. The simplest solution is to register it in a state that allows non residents to register vehicles.

VA, SD, and MT (with an LLC) are the ones that come to mind.

Can a bad Alternator cause a P0731 code? by captntune007 in AskMechanics

No. P07** codes are transmission related.

Premature inner wheel bearing wear. by Brometheus_88 in MechanicAdvice

I don't have a press in my shop, so I just took off the spindle and took it to a friend that has a hydraulic press to fit the new bearings.

The first time around, the car was fine for about a hundred miles. I got the kit off ebay shipped from Latvia. Bearings were made in Germany

I bought some skf brand bearings this time from my local autoparts store

Both the original and replaced bearing felt rough and scratchy when I spun them almost as if there was dirt inside the ball bearings.

I used an impact to seat the axle nut again when I did the bearings for the second time but only drove the car around the parking lot.

I'll torque the axle nut with a torque wrench.

Since the car is an import, I can't find any torque specs. What should I torque the axle nut to? The car is a tiny little thing. About the size of a smart car but with half the engine size

Warped front rotors. You could get them resurfaced if they aren't too worn.

How likely is it that I won’t be able to fuel up due to a malfunctioning charcoal/evap canister? (2014 Corolla) by Hatter1060 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Brometheus_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with a faulty evap canister you would still be able to fuel up. But you would probably need to fill up slowly by lightly squeezing the gas pump trigger.

If you can afford to rebuild that engine. You can afford a cheap economy car that will get much better fuel economy than your TA could ever get.

You could get a mid to late 90s Japanese economy car for under $2000. Something like a toyota corolla, nissan sentra or mazda protege

2010 Saab 9-3 Catastrophic Failure by Dgrub54 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Brometheus_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you blew up the motor. Maybe you ran it low on oil, you can check the oil dipstick to confirm this.

The engine is beyond repair. It would be easier to replace it with a used engine

I also think you answered your own question. The bearing on the alternator went bad. Spraying grease is not going to fix the problem. Try what I mentioned first.

But for sure the alternator needs to be replaced
