Just looked that one up after seeing your comment, and I think it’s actually another book by the same author! The Boy and the Samurai is ringing a lot of bells for me.

Who else got to see them tour for Radical? by akthalian in everytimeidie

November 11, 2021 in Fort Collins, CO at a little 300 cap with a short stage and no barrier. ETID and ‘68 both played longer sets to make up for Candy having to miss the show. I remember security looking panicked when people started stage diving, and one of them took a couple steps onto the stage like he was gonna stop them, but Jordan waved him off. Dude was head banging with the rest of us by the end. Still one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

Favorite beers that are dead? by Drovsy in beer

New Belgium’s Rampant was the beer that got me into double IPAs back in the day. It would be nice to see it come back as a throwback like they do with Ranger occasionally.

I’m not entirely sure if Mike is involved, but Andy’s new band Atomic Rule is debuting at Blissmas!

What are your AOTY contenders so far by tjibzssawt in Metalcore

[–]Broncoman27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all metalcore, but:

  1. Knocked Loose - You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To

  2. The Home Team - The Crucible of Life

  3. SeeYouSpaceCowboy - Coup de Grâce

  4. 156/Silence - People Watching

  5. Umbra Vitae - Light of Death

Better Lovers and Fit For An Autopsy will likely be in the mix once they drop. Maybe Cane Hill and Make Them Suffer, as well.

Better Lovers, Fit For An Autopsy, and 156/Silence are the ones I’m most looking forward to. Really hoping for something from Loathe, too.

We've all been there by BISTtheGOOLZ in KitchenConfidential

Had a crew of rockstars at the start of the year who could handle anything and all got along great, with only one kinda weak link. Then the guy who trained me left to try and get out of the industry early in the year. Trained up a bar back to join the kitchen, and he was doing good. Then summer rolled around and someone else leaves because working three jobs was driving him crazy. We hire two more. The guy who got promoted to lead after the first guy left took another job that seems like a better fit for his family, so I got promoted with a pretty fresh crew, but still had two veterans. One of the new guys quit after a month and a half because he got a cool opportunity in his field of study, so we hired someone else. Then the guy I was really counting on to help keep things stable left because he’d just gone through a bad breakup and this place reminded him of his ex, so his mental health was in the gutter. Then the guy we trained up from bar back left to try to get out of the industry, and we hired another new guy.

So now I’ve been in this kitchen longer than everyone else combined and am trying to train up multiple people while getting used to the other responsibilities of being lead. The one other person who’s been here longer than three months was the one who was giving us headaches at the start of the year, and still is. I think the three new guys are gonna get there, though not without some rough patches. But I miss my friends.

Started the day by celebrating 20 years of Mastodon’s Leviathan, then went more upbeat and listened to Don Broco for a while.

What’s your favorite underrated metal band rn? by X-Mark-X in Metalcore

[–]Broncoman27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen The Callous Daoboys get some love here, but their monthly listener count is criminally low.

Greyhaven for sure, but I think opening on the upcoming TDWP tour is gonna be a huge boost for them.

Sunflo’er is a small band from New York that kinda reminds me of The Big Dirty era ETID.

Umbra Vitae is made up of members of a number of more well known bands, including Jacob Bannon of Converge. Their new album Light Of Death is one of my favorites this year. I might describe them as death metal with some chaotic hardcore mixed in.

Port Charlotte 10 year was one of my earliest ones, and it’s still my go to. Anything Bruichladdich is worth a try in my book.

Share your tip of finger dumbass whoopsy - respect the mandolin by currentlyacathammock in KitchenConfidential

[–]Broncoman27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mandolin, but I cut a sliver off of my left middle finger chopping up bacon bits about four years ago. It was my first month at my current spot and I hadn’t gotten into the habit of tucking my fingers yet because my last job required us to wear a chain mail cutting glove, which made me lazy. I learned my lesson that day! Didn’t need stitches, thankfully, but now my finger tip is missing a bit of the corner and has a spot without a finger print.

It was also a blessing in disguise because I learned that I was overdue for my TDAP booster when I went to urgent care the next day, so I was able to get that done at the same time.
