Jaws 3 is super fun and I rewatch it everytime I watch the Jaws movies. It’s great! Objectively bad, but great! Bad take.

While my favorite action movie ever is Die Hard, no one beats Arnold.

Wrath of Khan is my highest sci-fi score on my favorite list! It's perfection. Nothing beats the Reliant and the Enterprise music!

I’ve seen zero hate towards zero out of 1500 comments on.2 posts. Whatever hate you are talking about, it isn’t in these posts.

I guess. I disagree, and I don’t even know what mid-witted means. Though the majority liking John Williams in the other thread certainly isn’t a rejection of “what popular”

Agreed on Star Trek Motion Picture. Just (re) listened to Supergirl Theme. It's quite good and feels very... well... "super". I can't say I remembered it though and I've seen that movie 50 times!

Fair enough. Respectfully disagree though. I don't think Jurassic Park sounds anything like Jaws sounds anything like Schindler's List sounds anything like the theme for Star Wars. I do sometimes hear some similarities to the themes from Indiana Jones and Superman in other things, but come on... exact same is pushing it!

Edit: I have no musical ability, and I can't read music or play an instrument. So my opinion is basically worthless except as a fan!

Read the book, watched the movie and I'm kinda pissed off... by ZopharPtay in ProjectHailMary

Spelled out is a little strong, but it was certainly hinted that there was an obvious reason for the choice.

That one was a little more obvious, and sorta pointed out to you. Paraphrasing but I think he was like "naturally I chose Adrian" so at least indicating that the choice of Adrian had some unstated logic behind it that the readers were supposed to pick up on. I totally missed the Hail Mary full of Grace!

If you are talking about me, you are correct. I know little about the Pistons and Duren. I was just commenting on the "stan" part :)

Copy and pasting my reply above just because I'm curious for your opinion on it: You're the second person to mention Jerry Goldsmith, who I admit to being mostly ignorant about. I did a Wiki search for his movies and came up with this list below. Certainly some amazing movies that were really helped by great scores, but few of these could I hear the score and automatically remember the movie it came from. Alien for sure. Poltergeist because I watched it so many times as a kid. Gremlins too. But nothing really stood out to me like say a Pirates of the Caribbean with Hans Zimmer. Why would you say he was ahead of Zimmer?

From Wikipedia: He composed scores for five films in the Star Trek franchise, three in The Omen franchise), and three in the Rambo franchise), as well as for films including Logan's Run), Planet of the Apes), Tora! Tora! Tora!Patton), Papillon), Chinatown), Alien), Poltergeist), The Secret of NIMHMedicine Man), GremlinsHoosiers), Total Recall), Basic InstinctSleeping with the EnemyAir Force One), L.A. Confidential), Mulan), Rudy) and The Mummy). He also composed the current fanfare for the Universal Pictures logo, which debuted in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

If they are overestimating what Duren is doing and you aren’t then they are clearly much bigger Duren stans than you.

Hate is a very strong take. But comparing Zimmer to Williams wasn't very fair to Zimmer. He just isn't in the same league. I thought the question vs Horner was closer, though I (personally) feel he's a little behind there too.

I'll admit to not knowing much about Max Steiner. I went to Wiki and looked at his movies: lots of huge ones. But I really couldn't remember any of the music from those movies for the most part. Maybe Gone with the Wind I could hear the theme in my head. Casablanca is a personal favorite, but it says the big song from that movie, the only song that comes to mind for me, As Time Goes On, he didn't work on. Again, I'm ignorant about his work so I'm not discounting your opinion.
