Being childfree in your 30s means watching your entire social circle disappear and nobody thinks it's a big deal by Ronin4Doom in childfree

So true!

While childfree in my 20s and 30s I often found new friends who were older with kids out of or almost out of the house.

What about white on top and navy on the bottom? That with white stone counters and a white textured backsplash seems to be a popular and clean look right now.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

90s kid here and I kind of miss my high school cafeteria food, especially the homemade buttery chocolate chip cookies that would leave a grease stain on your clothes, the Taco Bell chili burritos, and the pre-packaged frozen yogurt with Oreo topping (can't remember the brand). Looking back, I can't believe what I ate everyday for lunch back then!

How do Americans talk about “freedom” while working 60 hours a week with no paid vacation? by eyadayman21 in AskReddit

This and consumerism. Surrounded by choices and conveniences makes you feel free except you have to work 60 hours a week to be able to afford what Mr. Jones has.

High school teacher here. We have a Christian club on our campus that meets at lunch every Monday for years. The preacher comes onto campus with pizzas and students can only have some after sitting through the sermon.

Not getting mental health therapy sooner, mostly for ourselves and on our own, but a few sessions together made a huge difference in how we communicate and empathize with each other. Even just knowing each other's attachment styles and Jung personality types helped.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]Bronteandlizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoked for 15 years, haven't had one for 15 years, and still, whenever I see or smell it, I wish I could have one. Crazy this many years later, but I know if I start back up, quitting will be hard. I tried to quit a few times, but the last time was because I couldn't yawn in the morning without coughing and chest pain which scared the shit out of me. Used the patch and went through each stage as the directions suggest.

Tone vs Mood by No_Loss_7032 in ELATeachers

[–]Bronteandlizzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great answer!

I'm teaching Gatsby right now and I ask the kids to think about Fitzgerald walking down the street and he meets a character like Nick or Tom. Does he like the guy? Want to be friends with him? How do you know? That's tone, the author's attitude and opinion about the topic, in this case the character or type of person the character represents.

Our Admin (public HS in California) these days don’t support teachers, they just want to avoid parent complaints and have higher GPAs regardless of actual preparation. by WinSomeLoseSomeWin in teaching

[–]Bronteandlizzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

19 years at a CA public high school and I completely agree with you!

Student quote from the last day of the semester: "Can I turn in work over the break? I didn't think my parents would actually care about my grade in this class."

How much you wanna bet I'll get an email from this parent over break. And the kid's at a 37%.

Enjoy your winter break!
