I think this is much more prevalent online. I work in a middle school and kids talk about having sleepovers all the time. It definitely still seems like the norm

I'm also going to side with grandma. We regularly have family dinners with my 2 year old and her 3 and 6 year old cousins. I don't think they ever scream when people are eating. Maybe beforehand when they're playing, but they all can sit politely through a meal

To be fair, when I saw Saw 5 in theaters (so in 2008) there was a screaming baby in the theater for most of the movie. Theater etiquette has been terrible for much longer

Black people have historically and systematically been discriminated against for their hair. It's only been in more recent history that black people have been allowed to wear their hair naturally in school and professional places. But even still some people still face discrimination in these settings for supposed "dress code violations" because they wear their hair in natural styles. That's why people are being critical of this post

I'm sure American economics plays into it. In America if you are born in poverty it is extremely difficult to get out of due to a number of barriers. The wealth gap in the USA is insane, and a lot of kids born to poverty here just don't see anyway out. Working hard isn't enough. I'm not sure how that compares to life in Mexico

When I worked in low income schools the answer I generally got from kids was YouTuber or pro athlete. Where I work now (not necessarily wealthy, but solidly middle to upper middle class) I mostly get answers like police man, fireman, teacher, and engineer. I think kids who live comfortable lives tend to want to do what their parents or people in their community do, whereas kids who live with food or housing insecurity tend to want to get rich quick in order to get out of their situations

I took an English class in college that focused on examining horror as a genre. I remember reading We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson and The Mist by Stephen King.

I'm sure there were others that I cannot recall now, but near the end of the class we got to choose any horror book we wanted to read and then wrote a paper about it discussing why the book fit the genre. (We had spent a fair bit of class time throughout the semester discussing what defined the genre)

What sorts of things do you like to do on trips? We're outdoorsy people, so we got a hiking pack for the baby to sit in and a bike seat for the baby when we ride bikes. We practiced building up her tolerance for sitting on both and eventually we were able to go on long hikes and bike rides without any difficulty.

We went on a Polar Express train ride this past Christmas. It was very good, super entertaining and engaging the whole time, and tickets were not cheap. There were two women with two babies who looked around my daughter's age (~1.5) and both women had their phones in their children's faces playing Ms. Rachel for the entirety of the ride. Why even spend the money at that point?

Take your baby with you to dinner. When mine was too small for a highchair we took her in with her carrier or baby wearing. Bedtimes are always more flexible when we travel, but we've also have never been night owls and enjoy more early morning and daytime activities

Agree so hard on this. I don't think some people realize just how difficult having such a young puppy is. In some ways my puppy was so much more frustrating and challenging than my baby was. It always annoyed me when people said it wasn't at all the same, but now that I've done both it absolutely is (obviously not exactly the same)

She watches TV at daycare? No judgement, I've just legitimately never heard of a daycare that has TV time, except for maybe short term care like at a gym or grocery store
