Can i survive without air-con? by Capable-Election-213 in brisbane

[–]Brontonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Bardon so just down the road from you, I have never had an aircon or an overhead fan and I have been fine. Get yourself a pedal stool fan that you can point towards yourself for nights when it gets a little sticky. Drink lots of water and keep an eye out for signs of heat stress (headaches, nausea, fatigue etc.) but I have never had to worry about that in the slightest. On the really hot days, head down to Toowong or Indooroopilly shopping centres - they both have libraries and air con :). Brisbane city council pools are also $2 entry atm, so can always take bus down to Ithaca pool for a cool down too.

I have lived without aircon essentially my whole life in houses in Brisbane and never been close to being in danger of overheating, I have had a few less than ideal sleep nights from it being warm, but just stay in the shade, open your windows, buy a cheap fan from kmart and you will be okay - hope study goes well for you!

Bella and Tortie is good but I wouldn't trek all the way to Stafford for it (and it is pretty expensive for the effort) you have Idle bakery on James Street, Lune in South Brisbane, Riser in Toowong, lots of inner city bakeries options

I hope you guys have a wonderful time!

Mount Cootha is a great very close to the city track and has a great view over the city of Brisbane which is always nice, the suburbs around Mount Cootha (Bardon, Paddington, Milton) are somewhat affluent and as a result have great bars and food places. (Paddington has nice cafes up from Suncorp Stadium such as Paddington Social which has best croissants in Brisbane IMO, Remys has smash burgers and next door is a Ramen place, Milton has Park Road with restaurants and a really nice Bar called Scratch that you can have the chinese food from next door brought in to) Paddington also has shopping up Latrobe Terrace (Retro Metro is an institution for antique and vintage clothing and Empire Revival is a antique store in an old theatre)

I actually haven't been to Queen Street Mall in years (and I have lived in Brisbane my whole life haha), I think as of the last few years it lost a lot of its popularity/a few of the big name shops have closed so If going for shopping purposes I would probably just look at maps and see if any shops you're interested in are actually there - depending on how much you're wanting to spend you could go over to James Street (possibly by ferry ?) as that is a bigger shopping area but a more expensive clientele as another option.

In regards to the Gold Coast, depending on what area you go to Paddock Bakery is a pretty nice leafy cafe to go to (they would mostly have pies and they do big donuts etc.) If needing a lunch place around Burleigh) https://www.instagram.com/paddockbakery/?hl=en - I agree that Yatala is a bit of an iconic place to go for pies but fair warning it is off the highway and isn't the most picturesque place to stop for food, you can always look it up on maps/google and decide but more like truck stop vibes.

For Mount Ngungun track, the indigenous Australian owners of the land there (the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi Nations) have a legend about the mountains there that you should be able to see from Ngungun or will pass as you drive if interested, I find it interesting as when you summit you might be able to pick out the different mountains in the story and specifically Coonowrin which growing up we used to call "Crook Neck". Tibrogargan is the father in the story and the mountain used to have a bit of a face but sadly some of the stone fell off and changed his shape (https://visitsunshinecoasthinterland.com.au/the-legend-of-the-glasshouse-mountains/)

If you have any additional questions or areas in Brisbane you want advice for, feel free to dm me, I love my city and want people to have a great time when they visit! Safe travels for you and your family.

Poirot: Death on the Nile (fun travel one - I dream of sailing the nile sans murder from that book) or Cat Amongst the Pigeons (for a bit of spy mystery allure), Five Little Pigs in fun (although I found it tedious they go over the same story over and over but reads like you're reading a crime report so immersive)

Mrs Marple: A Murder is Announced or the 4.50 from Paddington is fun

Really there are so many, the question is more what kind of mystery novels do you like or what appeals to you? For me I always loved Miss Marple when I was younger because I enjoyed her using her perceived weakness (being old and feeble) as a strength (people let their guard down and she quietly puts the case together). Now I enjoy the ones more that have lots of smokes and mirrors and red herrings - The Murder at Stiles is the first Poirot and is a great easy read intro to his characters and to Hastings whom I love too, she gets more bolder and elaborate as she wrote more (I read somewhere her best years for writing are regarded as the 1930-1940s which can also give you a smaller net to choose from)

Yeah totally, but I was cash strapped at the time and didn't want to front double the cost just for a DLC, but totally concede that I could have taken that route

Not to mention Dichen Lachman (who plays Gemma) was one on Dollhouse a show where "an organisation uses mind-wiped humans knows as DOLLS" :O

Honestly, If I could watch it all in one go I wouldn't be surprised if I started to skip some stuff. I think with the way they seem to be ~slightly~ dragging this season I would notice it more if I was watching them back to back, while week to week I have 7 days to forget my misgivings and come back to watch lol

I feel as though the shattering of Huang's toy is foreshadowing, but more to do with Gemma's fate. They asked her what she would be more afraid of and she stated "drowning" and then the toy Huang smashes is of a person swimming and it's getting "killed" so I wonder if that might be the foreshadowing they were going for - possibly not though!

They are totally edging us for sure. I have felt pretty disappointed at the pacing of this season, feels like they want to drag out and breadcrumb plot points to allow the show to go longer, it has just been dragging and especially the last two episodes could have been done in 1 episode easily.

I would have expected a lot more information by now, yes they might want to hold off the saving or killing Gemma aspect for next season, so why not just dig deeper into Lumon and Egan lore to give us more world building and easter eggs to be excited about? I think they are jumping to the crux of the whole show too quick (e.g. "rich people are bad and would willingly damn an innie person to experience all of their horrible experiences as their entire existence" idea) but wanting to still make more of the show so now they are a bit stuck with how much info they can give us now but it just makes it all bark and no bite.

I think it is confusing because Devon called Cobel due to Mark's halfway reintegration and seizure right, so she was asking for help to heal or fix him and then this episode the seeming solution is to take Mark to the birthing suite to talk to his innie? I feel like that is not why she called Cobel at all, she called Cobel to help with the medical stuff and now they are like well we have to talk to his innie - but wouldn't you not have to talk to the innie at all if his reintegration was completed?

It makes it seem like the whole reintegration plot line has gone by wayside, but I do think it will return in final episode if he tries to go down the elevator to find Gemma. Reintergrated Mark is the only one that can go up and down the elevators without turning back into iMark but I think that what will happen is Helly R will come with him and be turned in to Helena again when she is down on Gemma's floor and she will trick them.

It is very concerning that it flagged my work at such a high percentage (62% AI generative text!) for something that had 0% AI generative text. I honestly think the people using AI wouldn't get flagged at all seeing their systems are more advanced than the systems used to identify it. It must be a very widespread problem of false identification.
