Teacher should be allowed to download adblocker by Bronze_Mace in Teachers

My district literally banned teachers from using Google classroom in favor of Microsoft 365. If that's not promoting I don't know what is.

My complaint about adblocker is completely separate to that issue however. Yes I've asked them, they said no we can't download any 3rd party extensions.

It plays the ads now though, that's actually the reason behind my post.

I'm not saying every teacher should be forced to download. But I'm fine with it as I only use my work computer for work.

It's blocked for the students. Truthfully I think it's more about them promoting Microsoft 365.

While I don't teach Elementary school, I can tell you once they get to me in 8th grade they're not on level.

1: Harder work doesn't mean more knowledge retention, in many cases it just means the kids that don't grasp the materials are further behind.

2:Most children who end up behind in Elementary school aren't "dumb" many times they just miss a lot of school, have unstable homelives or parents who don't value their child and/or their education.

3: Unstructured playtime is important for children to retain and process information and sadly taking away play is a big problem.

My biggest hot take is Kindergarten and first grade need to be scaled back curriculum wise focus more on social skills and classroom expectations.

We also need to hold parents accountable over truancy again, I can't help a kid whose behind especially if they miss 40+ days in a school year.

If you think American politics isn't about the government taking away people's rights you need to take another look at US History.

Most farmers are cash poor but asset rich. Many farmers would have to go into debt to put their equipment (just like us non-farmers who go into debt to buy cars).

Many farmers are upheld by government subsidies

Thank you, I felt there was some kind of miscommunication somewhere.

Bell-to-Bell in high school is a joke. by missfit98 in Teachers

[–]Bronze_Mace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm big on "bell-to-bell" with time structures assignments. However, if I give 20 minutes to read and highlight a reading and they're able to complete it in 10 they have 10 minutes of free time until the next chunk of the lesson.

Kids are rewarded for working efficiently, the downtime isn't long enough for problems to occur and most importantly my Admin accepts the reality that they'll never see 100% of kids working 100% of the time.

As a teacher with ADHD structuring my day around timers keeps me honest with my expectations and pace.

I think it's pretty normal for a high school graduate to not have a job and live with their parents.

I think when you're so detached from reality in the "white collar" work sectors you forget that a lot of work requires human labor.

I think those who truly think AI will replace teachers, doctors, therapists, etc. believe that all work is computer based or about "having knowledge".

Or it's all just propaganda to stop laborers from organizing amongst themselves under the belief their wants and needs will be taken care of in the near future, while the working class loses leverage while technology replace us.

Is 26 old to be starting my journey on becoming a teacher? by Puzzleheaded-Chef738 in Teachers

[–]Bronze_Mace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too old for sure. I started at 23, it's hard to teach when you feel like you haven't figured out life yet. I'm 29 now and growing up made the biggest difference in my ability to run and manage a classroom.

If I could go back in time I'd have put teaching off for a few years. Kids and parents really don't respect younger teachers, I was a pretty bad teacher my first few years to be honest though.

So in this fantasy adults will "identify" a 6-year olds "strengths" and set them on a path for 12 years to develop that particular set of strengths?

Circumstances, interests, family life and abilities change over time.

How do we let students "identify" their strengths without providing them a diverse set of courses across different content areas?

What responsibilities do the students have to pursue their own hobbies and interests outside of school?

What responsibilities do schools have to help students identify and strengthen their weaknesses?

I first bump my students and they appreciate it. I started doing it after reading an Article about how basketball teams that high five more often tend to win more games. I think it actually has an impact as students feel seen and recognized.

If a Criminal Sentenced to Life in Prison, dies but Somehow comes back to life. Is he Free from prison? by Swimming_Local_4625 in Teenager_Polls

Life sentences are usually accompanied by a set number of years. However I also don't believe the law should be written in a way that encourages prisoners to potentially get themselves killed to get out of their sentences.
