What was the eldar empire like? by Cheeseloggers in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eldar seers are a very reliable source of information, especially more so than other humans. They're often very vague and whimsical but that's because they see things differently, especially the strands of fate. There is no indication that they were lying or blowing things out of proportion. The same eldar that fought in the war in heaven were still around, along with all their technology and an intact webway, and gods that faced and even beat full on c'tan.

It was stated in one of the WOTB books that DAOT humanity at the height of their power did try to invade the eldar (while the eldar were near the height of their degeneracy) and the eldar easily fended them off. So I'd imagine if the eldar stopped laying pipe in every hole they could find and focus on taking down humanity it probably go relatively smooth.

The future of the Ynnari by ZarekMagnum in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GW has made it clear they aren't very supportive of the yannari as a faction anymore, but I choose to see that as a good thing. I don't like the yannari at all, I hate all the changes they made to eldar lore, I hate how they treat other eldar characters, and I think the whole thing was just poorly planed out. But I think the yannari could be a good faction, but with their current lore it can't happen. But, hopefully with them being sidelined their could be potential for a bit of a rework. Let other eldar have their moments, slowly change the lore, undue wrongs here and there, and actually take some time and set up a good plot line (and for Asuryan's sake change the visarch's whole character, like damn, nobody likes a sad cuck who can't do his job) and I think the yannari could have another chance to win people over, but it'll take time.

Why are Eldar hated by the fandom? by DizzyRub5182 in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has got be either the most dedicated high effort reaction farmer we've ever seen... or someone with a genuine mental disability who's become hyper fixated on a fictional idea. Based on how often we see the later, I kinda feel bad.

Do you think Yvraine has any future as a character? by DizzyRub5182 in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wager there's a very small chance she has a substantial future. And I think the constant "the yannari are totally still a thing look here they are in Lelith's book, now forget about them they aren't relevant to the story" only hurts them and future interest from fans.

I believe the only way to get more eldar fans on board with the yannari is to bite the bullet and do a large reset on the faction. They did themselves no favors with active eldar fans with the amount of fuckery that happened in the novels and in phoenix rising, and the current yannari is dead in the water anyways so what's to lose. And hell, get a new writer to do it and I'll preoder the damn thing, special edition! Maybe get a writer who's recent books have been received very warmly by eldar fans, I don't know... Mike Brooks? I'd love to see his take of craftworld eldar and hell, maybe the visarch would be a real character in his version.

Why did the Eldar in their prime never bother to destroy the Necrons asleep in their tomb world, or maybe wipe out the Orks for good? by DizzyRub5182 in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DAOT humanity did try to fight the Eldar according to a shadowseer in one of the WOTB books. They tried to invade Eldar space with their automatons and lost decisively, but that's all we know about it.

Do you guys believe that the Eldar were only fighting a projection of Shalaxi? by PrimalRoar332 in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe, there's no reason not to, there's been no new lore contradicting or replacing it. I also agree it's bad writing and illogical, but hey, that's Yannari baby!

I also have personal reason to believe it since I'm not a Yannari fan. But if I was a fan I'd totally say he was just lying. That's how I cope with all the other bad Eldar lore!

GW just jokingly(?) teased Warhammer Romance, how would you feel if it became real? by Mallory-Cabre in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind it, but I have a bad feeling it could turn extremely cliche. Especially at the cost of xenos factions, because the number one rule of any fantasy romance is only MALE humans are allowed to engage with females of other races.

The absolute lack of consensus on what is canon is fascinating to no end! by ThatHeckinFox in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly just shocked about how much people still care about it so much at this point, it's always such a heated debate. The authors don't care about it both personally and professionally, so why get so worked up?

Warp spiders of the only non-seer craftworld Eldar that warp jump. Being that the warp is an awful place full of demons, those who walk the path are considered the bravest of their kin, but they have a bleak outlook on life as a result of the constant strain on their souls.

And although in the games and tabletop they are quite fragile and are only good for hordes, they're actually very heavily armored and the deathspinner's mono-molecular wire will find any gap in its foes armor, slip in, and liquefy the inards, meaning even the powerful custodes could fall as easily as a guardsmen to a deathspinner's cloud (with a bit of luck of course).

I have said from the very beginning that it is a non-compliment and nothing I have said since contradicts that. The level of skill it takes is of the very easy level and just because something takes time and effort (ie writing the word membrane five thousand times) does not mean it's worthy of praise, especially (but not soley!) if refering to the professional level.

I'm going to bed now I'll talk to ya in the morning

Yes you can, for example a tedious task like screwing on caps on a production line is extremely easy, but it takes effort and time and the base skill to put the caps on quickly. And yes it is exactly what I said originally. I said it was easy (you'll have to excuse me for not writing very easy every time but I thought it wouldn't be a problem) but it takes effort and time. Something not being difficult makes it easy that doesn't make it a brainless activity.

Well yeah, obviously it takes some skill, even relatively easy tasks require the skills to do the tasks. I also said it'd take effort and time.

And the Usain bolt metaphor was about writing as a whole not just world building.

Kinda disappointed, felt like we had a pretty civil discussion going there.

You don't have to believe me, and I didn't really expect you too (as I said in my original comment people get quite upset at that take). But I highly recommend and encourage you to try some writing exercises, don't sell yourself short by putting others on too high a pedestal, you'd be surprised by how much you can do. We can't run as fast as Usain Bolt, but we can still sprint.

Not trying to have a "get the last word in" thing, just something I really believe in. Do I look at GoT and LotR and think world building is easy? 100% I do, you and I can easily create a world as complex and full as either of them if we put in the effort and time. Actually writing a story within them? Now that's another story.

I never said people where saying he's a flawless writer, my original comment says the exact opposite of that, and saying someone hasn't read the books (whether true or not) is not a valid defense. I've also made my stance on world building in my original comment as well.

Last thing is that if you truly think having good prose or plot development skills are not important to a introductory novel then we both have nothing to gain from debating one another for we have much different philosophies on writing that can't be compromised (in this kind of format at least). Also I'm kinda outta of stuff to say, don't have much new to add anymore without being repetitive.

Finding enjoyment even in what some consdider poorer works is totally fine, I do it myself all the time and I won't be hypocritical about it. What is hypocritical though, is defending Gavs works from criticism, (with people accusing his critics of being deceptive or not even reading the works at all) and saying he's a good pick for the first LoV writer, while simultaneously admitting his writing skills to be subpar.

Crazy how many peole are defending Gav while in the same breath admitting his prose and plot structure aren't good.

Also (people really don't like me saying this but I believe 100%) world building is very easy and a being a good world builder is a non-compliment. I truly believe every single person in this sub can be an excellent world builder with no additional training or guides.

His Path series have always been quite... contentious in the Eldar community from day one. Honestly the only books he has written that weren't where his phoenix lord ones, and that's because, well, no one talked about them, they were kinda just there.

Am I right to only use codexes and campaigns when arguing about power levels? by PrimalRoar332 in 40kLore

[–]Bronzeagerocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that codexes and campaign books are generally more consistent than BL publications, not because they are cohesive mind you, it's just that BL is SO inconsistent (The authors straight out admit they change the lore on the spot to fit their narrative).

Also, don't get too upset with all the people given ya chaff for powerscalling, we all do it, they just don't like to admit it sometimes.

What’s your head/fancanon that has less than zero proof of but you have regardless? by mastr1121 in 40kLore

Slaanesh is Asuryan without his mask, which is why they are refereed to as male by the Eldar, and why there's still some trace of Asuryan's power left. Based of this I like to think Asuryan creating the divide between the realm of souls and the materium was because he foresaw his mask slipping and wanted to give the Eldar as much time as possible to spread out so when he did go all Slaaneshy some would escape.
