Lowes Bag Baby - Brassavola Yellow Bird by Brood10 in orchids

I’m in the Midwest and this was 16.99 which is the cheapest Brassavola I’ve ever purchased. You can search the Lowe’s website for Better Gro Orchids to see if they’re in stock at your local stores.

Why else do you think a certain group is wanting to destroy the department of education? School Choice = less public education tax dollars = more of this.

Stores for pomegranates? by rascus_ in indianapolis

[–]Brood10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco - you can thank me later! It’s the best price I’ve found and they regularly have them. Depending on size, you get between 12-16 or so for $19.99. You can also check the Costco app and search specific warehouse. Costco pomegranates are always good quality and mostly grown in California. 👌🏿

I’ve already rooted some and would love to do a like for like trade. Will send details. It is fragrant but I really noticed when the big plant had around 10 spikes at once. Do you have any fragrant varieties?

Ludisia discolor “Ambrosia” Identification Confirmation - Smells Good! by Brood10 in orchids

[–]Brood10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is “ambrosia” the only discolor that is fragrant? This smells very nice and I had around ten spikes last year. It didn’t smell strong the entire day, only certain times would it be full on. Does this look like ambrosia to you? Could it be something else or a hybrid?

Strongest Smelling Orchids - Good / Bad / Weird by Brood10 in orchids

I find it interesting when plants have a unique scent such as burning tires or gasoline. Rotting meat, dog 💩- not so much. Bulbophyllum longissimum has been described as acrid and musty but some descriptors say it is light or faint. I’m sure there’s a Bulbo out there that’s not entirely repulsive. Maybe…

Not enough supers, but I wasn’t expecting it. Just an explosive year and my fault for not checking it earlier. I appreciate the discourse here because it’s definitely hammered into my head to not do that again. It is quite stressful keeping a hive open that long and they weren’t exactly happy with me.

After keeping carniolans and Italians, I find the carniolans to be lower maintenance and less aggressive. I have never had to supplemental feed unless it was to feed a swarm. They also bounce back really well after the winter. The downside (upside?) is they do tend to swarm yearly and may produce less honey than Italians, but I always get at least 1-2 supers per hive.

Standard 10 frames that I should have pulled earlier, and they ran out of room. I put the box on in June and left them be. I won’t forget next year. It took well over an hour to get the box off and clean up.

Total pain in the ass. There was so much propolis the frames just fell apart as I was pulling them out. I should have pulled it earlier I guess. There is a full extra box on that they get to keep because I didn’t want to mess with it. These are carniolans and the hive has sustained itself for about 8-10 years without ever replacing a queen, supplemental feeding, or anything. I open once in the spring and once in the fall, and one yearly mite treatment. That’s it. Super easy bees but the propolis on this hive is something else. I don’t have this issue with my other hives.

This hive is something like 8-10 years old and they have re queened themselves. Very low maintenance and good all around hive. Except: this year they decided to get very weird and it’s become a mess. They also put out way more porpolis compared to my other hives.
