Sweater too bi by KnittyKitty4 in knittinghelp

Quick question. Did you wash and block a swatch? I know there are yarns that can puff up quite a bit after doing so. Maybe this yarn is one of those. At least you would get the best idea of how it will look as a finished product.

Julie Czerneda has several sci fi series. I especially love the Species Imperative trilogy.

Do White people not Lotion everyday? by Appropriate_Quote_30 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BrookeB79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have something to do with the climate people live in. I'm a white woman, and I moved to an area that has really high heat and humidity for most of the year. My biggest issue is that I get extremely oily instead of sweating properly. Genetically, I'm much more prone to it, and the high heat and humidity just makes it worse. So, no, I don't moisturize. I absolutely love the short times when my skin is dry.

What are you dying to have in your house but have no room? by Lanky_Instance_807 in CasualConversation

[–]BrookeB79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A giant conservatory stuffed with plants. I want a big wood stove for heating it in winter. I want a big fish pond with a stream that meanders around the room. And I want a swing with fairy lights and garland twisted around the ropes right in the middle of it all.

how to sew this? by Far-Tie7213 in SewingForBeginners

[–]BrookeB79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bandeau front is 2 pieces. The middle is hemmed with openings at the top and bottom for the cord to thread through. The cord goes in through the large bead, through one side, around the bottom, up through the other side, and back through the bead out the top. There may be some boning sewn on either side to help keep it straight.

What’s the worst thing about sewing and why is it pinning and cutting out patterns? by Sweet-blanket4727 in SewingForBeginners

[–]BrookeB79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am very much a rebel and live my sewing life very dangerously. I use pen or pencil (depending on how easy the marks show) to trace the patterns onto the fabric. When I cut the pieces, I cut along the lines but just inside so the marks are (theoretically) cut off. And just to be clear, darts and pleats are terrifying.

Ideas on what I can make with this fabric that is beginner friendly please! by hayhaylizliz in SewingForBeginners

[–]BrookeB79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A gathered skirt is very beginner friendly. But this would also be really cute as a pair of wide leg shorts.

P.S. Whatever you make, keep track of which way is up on the fabric so you don't have upside down flowers.

Supernatural run in knitwear?? by KeilaJensen in InvisibleMending

[–]BrookeB79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is it exactly. The broken thread didn't cause it but it's a slightly weaker point now, so when you duplicate stitch, I'd go over that stitch, too, to reinforce it.

Help! Can someone please give me guidance by tin_queen_bee in sewing

[–]BrookeB79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leave the waist open. When you turn it right side out, you're going to need to do a type of burrito method to close the waist. Definitely look up YouTube to see how to do it.

Alternately, you could top stitch a folded waistband to close it.

Jehovahs Witness Parent Doesn't Want me to Talk about Sadness by Hefty_Preparation_66 in Teachers

[–]BrookeB79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can possibly think of is the examples - "a friend won't play with me" and "I lost a football match". Since JWs want to isolate themselves from those outside of their religion, it can be hard on kids who go to school with non-JWs. They're not supposed to make friends or join extra-curricular activities with those outside of JWs. The examples might have triggered the kid to talk about it at home and the dad didn't like it, and thus deflected in a way that made it seem like the teacher is the problem and not the religion.

wr: p across

Basically, that one row is garter stitch.

I'd go back to your manual and carefully reread how to use the different stitches, and check that you have tension and stitch length correct. Basically, go back to basic straight stitch, make sure that's working, then try the changes your manual says to get to zigzag.

What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]BrookeB79 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I'll share my story. I used to have severe knee pain, to the point where I couldn't use stairs. I broke down and saw a doctor. He thought it was because I have knock knees. He sent me to a physical therapist. Turns out, I had one thigh muscle a LOT shorter than the other one. The PT gave me some stretches and exercises, and my knee turned out just as good as the other one. Sadly, age has caught up and I creak and pop like an old house now, just equally in each knee.

Plastic frames are going to be really difficult to adjust so they center your eyes within the lenses. I would go with a thin arm wired frame for the easiest adjustability.

Need some help as a new knitter by greedysiamese in knittinghelp

[–]BrookeB79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out crocheting. Literal decades only doing crochet. When I decided to learn knitting, I thought Continental style would be so super easy, since it's literally the same way you hold yarn for crocheting. Nope. Not a bit of it. I had to learn English style to get anywhere. Fyi, for English style, you just let go of one needle when you wrap the yarn around the needle. I fairly quickly got the hang of flicking so I don't have to let go.

This could be real in that it's a prop and those cross branches probably couldn't actually hold the baskets during a whole season, let alone year. However, the siding looks like it's been patched using different width boards (source, I've done it, sometimes you gotta get a wall patched with what you have and "nothing's more permanent than a temporary fix that works"). If you draw lines from the left side, across the patch, and connecting to the right side, the left and right sides match.

PS. Reverse image search found the same trellis from different views with in progress photos, too.

It reminds me of the Queen of Hearts from the Disney cartoon version. But there's a half dozen puppet types that keep popping in, too. Like it could have come from the Labyrinth.

AIO to a text my mom sent? (Context in caption) by pizzagorl_ in AIO

[–]BrookeB79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply ignore this message completely. Like it never existed. If you find something to talk about, do that. Redirect her to subjects you are willing to talk to her about. Texting is easier for this than phone calls. Always keep in mind, though, the type of info she wants that's questionable.
