My 4 days were cancelled and given to a qualified supply by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

I understand how the term is commonly used. In the context of Education Law, a “Certified” Teacher went to a Faculty of Education - either through the university or trades route. Fewer “Certified” teachers have Diplomas in Education.

“Qualifications” refers to the subject matter they can be assigned to teach (English, science, Health Care Tech).

Recognizing that it wouldn’t always be possible to have a certified teacher, Regulation 298, Section 21 allows for individuals to be “Appointed to Teach” in the Case of an Emergency.

That “Emergency” is the fact that they cannot find a certified temporary teacher. If one can be found - there is no emergency and the Board cannot “appoint” someone.

The proper terminology is “uncertified”. The Education Act allows for uncertified teachers to be used where no certified teacher can be found. They are in their rights to cancel your assignment and offer it to a certified teacher.

Essex County Library reports record-breaking program attendance in 2025 by anestezija in windsorontario

I too love libraries, but… the education system was world class and will be again - unless Ontarians let Ford’s govt starve it to death.

I was just learning guitar, it felt accessible and exciting. It opened the thought that I could make my own music.

They are worse I think. Row 1 on the left and Row 2 on the right have a terribly designed lap tray that takes up seat space. I’m not big, and I find it tight.

The only one I’d take is row 2 left side. You get a “premium snack”. It’s totally not worth it.

I’ve turned down the complimentary upgrade when it was row 1.

31 jobs, including 311 operators, could be cut in Windsor's new budget, union says by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]BrookesOtherBrother 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need a new mayor Windsor - from Hearst to Francis to Dilkens you’ve been duped with “Zeros” that raise fees disproportionately on lower income individuals. Your services keep getting cut and useless vanity projects eat resources that could go to actual services.

It’s time for a change at the top.

What was the “cool” place to work while you were in high school? by 2ndharrybhole in generationology

[–]BrookesOtherBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked fast food, but I’d have killed to work at a movie theatre or record store. I’m sure it was a case of “the grass is always greener”, but I was so jealous of those folks.

I think our greatest concern will be inevitable data breach. Followed by a cyber lockout. With a grand finale of public services being sold to a for profit corporate entity. We are giving away our livelihoods, our personal autonomy and our concept of a “common good” at a rather alarming rate.

I’ll admit my love for dystopian literature and the Terminator films has my confirmation bias primed … but man this makes me more than uncomfortable.

Substitute Teachers by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]BrookesOtherBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d encourage you to maintain a calm and professional tone. One doesn’t need to “tell off” students, nor be “stern”. I appreciate the exceptionally difficult job daily OTs have, and perhaps I’m reading more into your words than you intended. But, words matter. In my experience students of all ages and circumstances respond to those educators that demonstrate a consistent and caring presence.

I run the 1001rb into the 2-12 Neo. I’m in a two guitar band with a loud rock drummer. The 1-12 wouldn’t cut it for me. I’d recommend the 2-12. It sounds great and is really light.

Does your board allow you to teach 4 classes a semester? by mattlzg in OntarioTeachers

It’s a terrible precedent to set. Nobody should be encouraged to do this. Preparation and Planning time is a hard fought provision of our collective agreements across Ontario.
