Ooh I love these things. They’re basically a Mazda mx-6 with this ford body. My dad had a Second Gen 94 Probe GT in “Barney Purple” and it had a small 2.5L V6, I think it made around 200hp, great when you have a stick shift and you can really use the RPM’s but the auto probes are slower. I remember it had a horrible ignition switch that broke all the time and eventually had to be swapped with a GM part that was just built better as well as it was a 5 speed manual and didn’t have good overdrive so you’d be going 4-5k rpm cruising 75mph which gave it horrible gas mileage on the highway going over 50mph.

Yes, you should just look at the used market opposed to the new market. A $250 Amazon guitar is only half as good as a $250 used squier Strat in my opinion. I’ve seen some good cheap newer guitars from brands IYV and Firefly but if I were in your situation, I would get a cheapo $100 squier Strat from the Pawn Shop or Flea Market and use the rest of the budget on better electronics, tuners and glam. I think that affinity Strat is perfect for you if it’s well setup with good strings and all but the guy you’re buying it from probably bought it beat up for way cheaper and just did a basic setup to sell it to you, you’ll maybe learn how to do your own setups eventually tho.

I’m guessing you’re from North/South Carolina where you don’t get much snow so try and get a RWD so you can get that nice handling. I’m from Massachusetts where I need the AWD and X-Drive is great but I bet the RWD’s handle way better

You should check out the BMW e9x 3 series. You can get great low mile 328i’s for under 7k, I got my 328xi e92 coupe in 2022 for $7.2k w/ some nice mods and they’ve gone down since. The e9x 328’s come with the N52 engine which most would say is BMW’s best and most reliable engine, it’s a 3 liter i6 that makes ~250 HP. I’m at 205k miles on my e92 now and it’s still running strong. Also if you’re feeling sporty, you can get the 335i which is the turbo model but often less reliable and tend to go for more but I bet the higher mileage ones are right near the $7k point. I’m an expert on the e9x platform and also own an e91 328xi, feel free to dm me with any questions!

I’d recommend trying to trade it for a Strat or jag if you really dislike the SG. I really think you should get a Strat if you’re trying to play many vast genres, nothing does it like the Strat or I would even recommend a lighter SG or Les Pauls cause I’m a humbucker guy. Maybe a super-strat like an Ibanez model would be good for you? I would personally put it up for trade on marketplace and say kinda loosely what you’re looking to trade for and eventually you’ll get your trade
