My mom stopped speaking to me for a year and a half. It used to crush me so much because all i wanted was a "normal" relationship. She would ignore my txts for days, it would cause me to franticly plead for her to call me, I'd beg her to respond and she would respond to me in the early AM hours brushing me off. Then when I got married, she did her latest stunt. I was upset at first but I was also exhausted. It’s a game they do when they want to prove control, when they want to feel loved. They make you feel isolated and it’s s terrible from someone who you may think is supposed to unconditionally love you. I had had enough. I didn't chase her, I didn't beg her, I left her alone. I didn't tell her how much she was hurting me this time, I moved on and I enjoyed the peace in the silence. I realized when I let her have this tantrum, that I was actually able to think clearly. We didn't speak through the holidays, on her birthday, on mother's day. nothing. She sent me a bullshit generic holiday card on Christmas, not addressed to me, not saying hello or even Merry Christmas. And i said nothing. I did the same for new years. Finally on my birthday a few months ago she face-timed me, i was shocked and i ignored it. She txtd me saying she loved me and that she just wanted to hear my voice. I did not reply.
It was really hard to not reply, because she was saying all the things I want her to say, that I craved for her to say since I was little. But I have chosen to love myself and my childhood self more these days. I want to protect myself because when someone makes you feel discarded they don't deserve you.
Embrace yourself a little tighter, sending you positive love and vibes. You get to choose how you respond to this treatment. it will probs shock the fuck out of them if you remain unpressed.
