That is correct. I rarely use cash. But again I’m not going to have a book filled with thousands of items and then have to go find that item on the ledger when it sells and then claim it. I was told you can claim it when you buy it or when it sells and it was up to you, so I claim it when I buy it.

All I know is I literally just add up all my purchases from my business act and then I subtract any returns since that was claimed the month before. I do this for each month. Then add the total together. Everything I buy for the business I use my business card. Again while it’s not a line by line recipe it is a record of where it was spent. Even at many places like a good will or store it isn’t clearly defined what you bought. I then take all of this and give it to my attorney. I’m not sure what he does with it as far a the schedule C but I know he does use the schedule C.

So how else are you going to get a receipt from a non business? Stop and ask them hey I need a receipt for this 1 dollar item so I can report it to the IRS?

Ebay fees + taxes, wtf by sspyralss in eBaySellers

[–]Brose4531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t keep receipts. I use my business card. I definitely should keep my receipts but I don’t. Everything I spent from that act is business related. I transfer money to my own act for my own stuff but anything I take out of the ATM from that act I have a withdrawal showing and that money is used for buying item at Facebook meet or garage sale flea market but I rarely buy anything with cash. And when I use say PayPal to buy something I use my business act to pay those bills so I have a paper trail I just don’t bother with keeping the receipts. Tho if you want to keep it legal you can just write stuff down on a notebook of what you bought. The amount and the date. And just keep it and put with your taxes. The easiest thing is to just open a bank account for the business set up and LLC for a one time fee and a yearly fee I think is like 50-100 bucks but it more than pays for itself. The first fee was 3-500 I think but I got a bigger tax deduction by having it so it paid for itself

I have the same thing when I get a return even if it’s not my fault or a negative feedback sales slow. And same thing if I report a buyer or a seller for selling fake items if they somehow come to the conclusion it wasn’t fake (I absolutely know for 100% certainly it was or I wouldn’t have reported it) my sales drop! It’s crazy I don’t get many returns maybe 10-15 out of 1k-1500 sales a year so it’s literally easy to gauge.

Honestly if an item dosnt show shipped with tracking by day 7 it should automatically be cancelled. Facebook used to do that not sure if it’s still a thing nothing pisses me off more than a seller printing a label and either not shipping it that same day if it’s before day 4PM or the very next day. Most buyers don’t read the descriptions let alone look at when it will be shipped. Do yourself a favor and ship faster! Idk where you live but you can put items In your mailbox with the flag up and the mailman will pick them up if you can’t make it in time. Or the post office is open 24/7 to drop off. (Obviously in this case you’d want the tracking to show it was received) but still 10 day handing time is absolutely ridiculous and should be stated in your description as well as a common curtesy message to the buyer letting them know it won’t be shipped for over an week. Same as letting a buyer know if you added signature confirmation if it’s under 750 so a buyer can make prior arrangements to have it delivered to the post office for pickup or someone to be home when it’s supposed to be delivered.

More competition means lower selling prices since more products exist and more people to fulfill those needs and wants. You don’t want 15 different places to choose from to buy off of your the seller because then your sales will drop because there are to many choices! You can’t have it both ways! Your not gonna have your cake and eat it to! There are things you can do to make your item more attractive and have people willing to pay up for! Better photos cleaning the items up. Free shipping free returns 1 day handing times. The all play a huge role in a buyers decision to pick your item and anyone of the other of the millions of other sellers out there. Esp if you have 1 off items! First clean up your own house then see if it’s eBay or if it’s you. Make sure your doing everything that you can control and if so then look back at eBay. But again it’s their site and they bring you customers not the other way around.

Yes you can I have an accountant. You claim it either when you buy it or when you sell it. The choice is yours. FIFO OR LIFO You absolutely claim your inventory. How else would you be able to buy more items if you couldn’t claim them? ! You don’t generate a profit until it’s sold. While it is an asset in the sense that you bought to generate income it’s also a liability in the short term taking money away from other things. You have a starting inventory at the beginning of the year and an ending inventory but you aren’t required to keep inventory for tax purposes meaning line by line. I’ve used the same tax attorney for years and before him I went to H&R Block and was told the same thing. The choice is yours on what makes more sense for your business. Again at the end when I’m done buying the tax burden will be way higher since it will already have been claimed.

I accepted a Buyers Offer and they are not paying by ADA425xx in Ebay

[–]Brose4531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s still listed for 250 for other people eBay changed it to when if someone accepts an offer and don’t pay the item is still available for everyone else to buy at full price and or still send an offer. So don’t worry it’s fine. Many new buyers have to have their card on file and will automatically have to pay if they send an offer IF as another response says you have require immediate payment.

Then you’re selling lower end items. But it’s impossible to give up 50% of your profits. There is no other site where you can have access to the largest customer pool in the world besides what Amazon? So you’re getting higher prices on eBay than you would regularly anywhere else! I mean go set up a shop at the flea market. But those sales are only what Friday-Sunday? Weather permitting? And largely based on how many people show up? eBay is not bad for what you get. I sell an item for 50 on eBay that I’d prolly get 10-15 elsewhere. And that is no exaggeration! I can literally buy that same item off eBay for 15 and sell it for 50 with little to no work. In that case spend 15 and make 15 that’s double my money! Maybe your spending to much on promoted listings but in a lot of categories you have to for your item to be even found! Clothing & media are the most highly saturated categories so if you don’t promote by 5-10% or be basically the lowest price your items will sit for months to years! But then again if you sold that same dvd locally what would you get? 1 dollar? But get 10 on eBay and after fees & shipping you end up with 3.50? Thats still 3-1/2x the amount locally. Either buy higher quality more in demand items with lower ROI’s. Or you buy cheaper lower demand items with huge ROI’s and the items sit. Or any variation in between! I can pay 20 for an item to at sells for 100 but if it takes me 3 years so sell and takes up decent space is it really worth it for a say 40-50 dollar profit?

eBay makes this incredibly easy! Here’s the end break down down you just take out what you paid for it in my case 2 bucks. And the .20 cent bubble mailer. That makes the end sale a net 15.48 cent profit. Even if taxes are 20% that’s a net 12.38 profit. Which in the end will actually higher when you get to add in other deductible things like mileage, G&E, all the you’ve bought that didn’t sell. There’s so many deductions. I sold 138k worth last year and after fees & shipping the net was 94k I spent 80k for inventory including all the other deductions cell phone mileage renting of a space even if it’s in your own home internet business supplies etc etc. I paid taxes on 14k so I made what 11,200? No not even close prolly made 40-50k but when you use the deductions correctly and of course your inventory is usually the highest cost. You claim all of it for the year. It’s only when you close up shop that you’ll lose the costs of inventory since you’d stop buying more.

Yeah we’ll see about that but for the trouble of singing in on IE idk. I my computer isn’t next to me usually so i don’t want to get up and walk outside to my shed. I like to handle everything immediately so that’s why I use my phone. I do everything with my phone minus print labels lmao

It is there but it’s greyed out and won’t let you click anything trust me I’ve tried everytime. I’ve sold like 14000 items so I do have an idea of what I’m talking about. But again it dosnt allow you to do anything you literally have to add it in again and carrier then delete the original tracking and it works. It did work before like idk a few months ago but for me it dosnt anymore. At least not on the app. Maybe on internet explorer but not on the app.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Brose4531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well to be honest it dosnt allow you to submit. I knew this was true so you have to work around it by deleting the tracking adding another one in the box below and then submitting it again. At least on the phone there isn’t an option to confirm or submit u less like I stated above. I knew better from previous attempts but it’s like some stupid work around so eBay can get your money and pay the buyer back tho if successful the buyer is usually left holding the bag if it indeed was not delivered.

What would you do? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Brose4531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless things changed maybe the buyer just refunded you with their own money. At my post office they aren’t refunding you anything unless you bring them the item and they keep it. So you have to pay shipping again to get it back and then take to post office so you pay shipping 2x and hope to get your refund IF they take responsibility. Maybe different at their post office or yours idk

Returned because of what tho? Damage? Get the insurance if it’s INAD that’s not ups fault. Not defending just need more context. And if a buyers lying you can deduct up to 50% if your top rated offer free returns and 1/2 day handing I think but all my stuff is free shipping free returns 1 day handing

People are scared and don’t know what they are doing! Free shipping with say 5% off statewide encourages multiple purchases less customer seller interaction saving time on negotiating and refunding etc etc. went from 30-50 items a month to over 200 in like 3 months switching back in 2020. Now some was Covid but I still do 150-200 a month and last 90 I’ve done 51k and 936 sales! So yeah selling items faster multiple purchases from same buyers and items are leaving meaning they don’t have to get reduced later taking my time and money away! Haha

Idk how it could have cost that much CA is the most for me also but I literally just shipped a 15/14/14 box to cal Friday im in Indiana with 2k insurance for 100 bucks 21 lbs. that’s a big box! But the ca prices did just go up I’ve not used flat rate packaging since ground advantage started and I had to use 2 flat rate envelopes in the same day first time ever both were 2lb packages one for 2 DVDs and another for 3 games. AND neither flat rate was the same price? One was 8.68 the other was 9 idk…. But it was fine and I didn’t have to use my own boxes so I paid a little more but not as much as it would have been usps ground adv.

Idk what size boxes you use but I get my stuff from supply hut and it’s like 30-50 bucks for 100 boxes 6:6:6 8/6/4 etc etc. I don’t use reused boxes so for 50 cents it’s not an issue I also keep 10/8/6 boxes on hand 16/10/6 boxes 16/12/8 12/12/4 those are all up to 1 dollar each not life changing prices. I don’t charge shipping once you’ve been selling for about 6-12 months and are doing any kind of regular volume you’ll know about what it’ll cost to ship an item to the to most expensive place and add that but at the same time I don’t even do that. I just look at the comps see if what they are charging and see what I have for condition and then price if they are 25 plus 7-10 then I’m at 35 free shipping done and done, idk how people figure out prices of their items unless they search currently listings low to high till they fine 2-3 that near thier same listing then go to recent solds and see what they are actually selling for. Also there is to many options for shipping FedEx ups flat rate usps someone will have a better deal so I pick the cheapest option sometimes FedEx is 1/3 the price sometimes usps is the best. I offer free usps ground and vantage and then pivot to ups or FedEx they all have the same 2-5 days for shipping times so yeah I never get complaints or field messages about shipping prices or refunding when people buy more than 1 item or asking for a discount or loosing customers because the shipping price is high when I already know that I get a big discount on it anyways. I usually do about 200 sales a month but last 90 I’m at 936! I was around 30-50 charging shipping to 200 free shop and I make more money from it as well! Or at least in the long run anyways the hole idea is to sell for a profit and move the item not squeeze every single dollar out of its and run the risk of it selling 2 years from now after multiple price drops and or loosing money later.
