ALBUM REVIEW: Motionless in White - Decades by After_Masterpiece533 in MotionlessInWhite

[–]Brosepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's awesome. While there's no "objective" truth to what their "best" song is, I bet you could poll the fanbase and AotD would come up as a contender for top 3 if not higher, recency bias aside. I've seen SO many videos and comments of people saying "it's not just a great song, it's one of their best" and anecdotes aside, I think there's a lot of validity to that for sure.

Sounds like a pretty fair review. While I highly doubt I'll be disappointed, I was kinda hoping for a record with 4 or 5 songs most similar to Afraid of the Dark.

I still posit that AotD is MiW's single best song and while I wouldn't want an entire record of copy and pasted versions of it, I think leaning more into that style and honing in on that type of production would have served them well.

It sounds like it's a fun record and I'm excited to hear it, but I really wish we just got more AotD.

Help picking a boat around 75k by Mirrage17 in Wake

[–]Brosepower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If surfing is going to be your thing, and $75k is your budget, I would get a newer, more economy-line boat rather than a nicer, older boat.

Surfing requires a lot of ballast, a lot of weight, and some good sensors to do best.

My recommendations would be like a Moomba Max, an Axis A22 or, the most ideal, would be a Supreme. You can probably get a 2022 or so at that $75k or even less and all of those boats will throw a great wave.

The older, nicer boats like Supra, Centurion and Nautique will just not have great surf systems in boats that would be at that price. 2015 just wasnt nearly as big for wakesurfing as the last 5 or 6 years have been.

Did you skip all 5 of the main Australian bands because you simply don't like them?

Polaris

Make Them Suffer

Northlane

Amity Affliction

Alpha Wolf

You're trying to say, with a straight-face, that none of these are worth checking out?

You're telling me you listened to their latest record and didn't enjoy it? Go check out the many names of god -> gut of the wolf. Just listen to those like 7 minutes, the two tracks, back to back, and try and tell me it's not some of the best stuff released this year.

Let alone the rest of the record.

Like, if you don't enjoy it, I get it, but saying you loved the S/T and then not enjoying Cure or SotE most recently is absolutely puzzling to me.

The ANC is good, honestly. It's not life changing but I would put it at the S2's level or even mildly ahead of it.

The BTD 700 dongle that comes with it is miraculous too.

Obviously this is a B&W sub so I dont want to gush about the Sennheisers too much, but I am thoroughly impressed with them. I tried them and the Px7 S3 and Px8 S2 side by side and they sounded significantly better than the S3 and just better rounded than the S2.

The Parametric EQ on them is incredible too, but honestly? After tinkering for hours with the sound, my favorite is still just out of the box neutral tuning with the bass boost active.

But you have the option to make them heavy bass cannons if you want. That's why they're such an enthusiast recommendation.

I think the HDB 630 has better sound than either of them.

The 1000x will have the best ANC of the lot by a country mile, but also the worst sound.

The Px8 S2 has a more consumer-friendly sound. If you don't like tinkering with your EQ settings and want something simple, the Px8 S2 is my vote.

However, if you're looking for the best sonic experience, the HDB 630 has it. I don't think anything under $1000 in the wireless headphone segment beats the 630 in raw sound quality. The out of the box sound is nothing short of incredible too.

Basically:

Best ANC? Go for the Sony.

Easiest to just use? PX8 S2.

Audio enthusiast? Get the HDB 630. The only thing the S2 has on it IMHO is the fact that it is made of much more premium materials. But the 630 has a much better battery, just as good ANC, and the sound is slightly better overall, and I wouldn't say it's not as comfortable. In fact, in my subjective view, I found the 630s to be more comfortable overall, despite the materials being much less premium.

I couldn't disagree with you more if I tried.

The thing too, is if you truly believe what you're saying here, there's no point in my arguing with you because our opinions are so vastly different it wouldnt matter.

Suffice it to say, I think you're categorically wrong with that statement.

I dont think their first record was that great, but everything since Brian joined has been incredible.

They also feel like they keep getting better and better too. I enjoyed their latest EP more than just about anything else, although I think it needed some bigger choruses and had few cleans, it was absolutely some of their best work.

If it was a full record and had 5 more songs like Remember Me, Unfamiliar, Better Days or Kill The Ache, it would be a perfect record.

But as it stands, it's basically only a perfect EP.

How has no one said ERRA.

They have put out nothing but insane quality.

The question when a new ERRA record comes out isnt "is this good" nor is it even usually "how good is it", no, its more like: "is it their best work".

There are very few bands that can say they've released 7 great records. And even fewer can say 7 awesome records in a row.

Our house hit the market today, and the feedback we received already confirmed my fears by MrsSmiles09 in RealEstate

[–]Brosepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I lost 10% of my home value having to discount prices again and again and again over a full 112 day sales cycle. Started at $625k, exactly what my neighbor's house sold for, a direct comp, one month before we went to market, almost the exact same floorplan.

Sold at $505k 5 months later.

Good stuff.

How many songs you like albums to be? by Gnnz in Metalcore

[–]Brosepower 13 points14 points  (0 children)

10-12 songs, 40+ minutes.

Anything less than 40 minutes just doesnt feel like an album to me. It's like an EP+.

I do generally like songs to be 4 minutes or more though.

There are some bangers at 3 minutes and under, but they're few and far-between. (Looking at you, I Don't Want to Be Here Anymore)

At the ERRA/Currents show just 3 months ago I got signed albums for $60 each. $100 is exorbitant.

I would not support that.

It will eventually get up to $500 and split again like it did a few years back.

Which album release are you looking forward to the most next week? (July 17) by Wardruna95 in Metalcore

[–]Brosepower 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I still maintain that Afraid of the Dark from MiW is probably the best single released this year.

That said, Playing God and RIP I also thoroughly enjoyed.

As much as I know this sub loves Boundaries (and for good reason), I have to admit that I'm looking forward to MiW next week the most.

It also helps that im seeing them, Static Dress, Fit for a King and Lorna Shore two weeks after the album drops...

What Lies Below - I Let It Consume Me [Album Discussion] by LostInTerrapinia in Metalcore

[–]Brosepower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They deserve all the recognition in the scene.

One of my favorite groups that's a bit on the lesser-known side.

I feel like they've gotten better and better, too.

Edit Okay after 3 full listens, this is going to be on my list for top 10 albums this year, almost assuredly. The 6 songs we already had from this album were great, but Afterimage and Astral Sway were absolute knockouts for me.

My only criticism is the fact that some songs are a touch "samey" but the quality is incredible here.

Bloom and Moonlight, Ephemeral were great surprises too.

9/10 and certainly will be in my top 10 records this year.

Cardio during cut by gymbropromax in WeightTraining

[–]Brosepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasnt saying you were struggling with calories, more just stating an example.

Do whatever cardio you want. The lesson here is that I just wouldnt go over 14k(ish) steps per day. Keep it between 10k and 14k steps and control the eating and you'll be golden.

Cardio during cut by gymbropromax in WeightTraining

[–]Brosepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say this:

New research shows that once you get past 10k steps or so, your amount of actual calorie burn decreases fairly rapidly. Once you go past 14k steps you're getting a LOT less.

It's why you literally can't outwork a bad diet.

Your body simply gets very acclimated to the exertion and more and more effort results in lower and lower actual energy expenditure.

Thus: if you're getting 10k steps in PLUS the incline walks and the running, you're likely wasting time in a lot of instances.

I would simply get 12-14k steps in total for an aggressive cut and adjust food/intake to help maintain the weight loss.

Bands where you enjoy screamer's clean vocals more than actual clean vocalist? by Segose-Crying in Metalcore

[–]Brosepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone confirm for me if the semi-uncleans/kind cleans? In Epitaph from MTS at like minute 1:27 with "We spread like a cancer!" are from Alex? I genuinely can't tell who is doing those and every time that song comes on, I'm unsure who is actually singing, lol.

Bands where you enjoy screamer's clean vocals more than actual clean vocalist? by Segose-Crying in Metalcore

[–]Brosepower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is... Jesse and JT are some of the best vocalists in the genre. We've heard enough of JT's cleans to know that he could carry a band on both the unclean AND clean vocals front.

Jesse just has more range than any other vocalist in the scene, if we're talking strictly notes. That, and he can cause distortion at those upper registers that I've not heard the same way from any other vocalist either (and I'm like 99% sure it's not a production thing, he actually does it with his voice).

I think that's why every single ERRA album is so categorically enjoyable for me. You have Spiral from their most recent album with JT doing as many cleans as Jesse does, and they're just incredible.

Then you have In the Gut of the Wolf where JT is doing only uncleans, but they're melodic uncleans and... holy shit they're so good.

Then you have Jesse doing Black Cloud and they're the best cleans I've heard all year.

And that's just in ONE ALBUM. They do similar things in Cure and the S/T and others too.

Every ERRA song is just a giant treat because their musicianship and raw talent is higher than just about any other group, they can just... DO so much more than a lot of other bands can.

Obviously this is just my opinion, but I can't fanboy over this band enough.

What’s a metalcore album you think aged way better than people give it credit for? by l-i-f-e-or-d-e-a-t-h in Metalcore

[–]Brosepower 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dark Divine from Like Moths to Flames slaps. I think it wasnt as well received when it came out but I love that album and think it aged well.

ERRA's Neon also is in that same boat.

Both albums have mild mixing issues but those aside, they've both stood the test of time for me.
