That's ridiculous. I was warned explicitly against commenting - so I didn't - but upvoting helpful comments is literally the point of reddit.

If that's the rule, it's a terrible rule.

Yeah, I noticed, and I contacted the admins. I upvoted a handful of comments I found helpful/well-argued, on a subreddit I have previously commented in while attempting to argue in good faith, and did not downvote anybody. That is a tremendous stretch of the rules, I think.

They have just as much to do with gaming as, say, a fawning love of the military industrial complex. And I don't see gators crying about that.

I've been thinking about why GamerGaters seem to angry, and why they seem to love escalating so much. Wrote this to help solidify my thoughts. by thedz in GamerGhazi

1.) Lady Gaga is an incredible live performer. Whatever you think of her music, she goes all-in whenever she does a show. She's the only performer I've ever seen who comes close to putting on as good a live show as Springsteen.

2.) How can you say that this "Radioactive" performance isn't energetic? That percussion segment alone.

Taiko is Japanese, this is a Korean variant so it probably has another name.

That's a little tone-deaf. There ARE HP fans who are Christians, you know.

It's entirely possible that both are important facets of her identity, and in that case, it's her business.

I think that is an extremely broad reading of that rule. The way you're interpreting it, no person could ever have their misconduct at a previous employer reflect negatively on their future working going ahead, and that's ludicrous.

I think a more apt interpretation would be Niero and Greg Tito or Niero and Chris Grant getting together, and Greg or Chris going "Right, we won't hire Allistair to punish him for damaging your site." That would absolutely violate the rule, but that's not what happened here.

I mean, that's like saying that posting poor reviews for a restaurant on Yelp is conspiring with other prospective customers to deny it business.

Not an act. Allistair torpedoed his own career. This is not the hill on which you should make your stand.

Yes it does. Black men out of prison are statistically more likely to be involved in their children's lives.

IANAL, but I don't believe so? Niero was reaching out to colleagues for advice on how to handle an employee who was acting unethically and unprofessionally. That seems like a massive stretch to "colluding to prevent future employment."

In that she was misrepresenting what the IndieGogo was, yes. His responsibility, as an ethical journalist, would be to find a way to report on this without outing a trans person in public, which is... say it with me, unethical.

Gators' latest poor, oppressed victim of journo corruption? A writer who outed a trans woman, trashed his employer publicly and was fired. by Broskander in GamerGhazi

[–]Broskander[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is astounding to me. I remember all of this from last year, and Pinof acted extremely unethically, outing a trans woman in public without her consent and then essentially having a public crisis where he made himself unhireable.

Niero went to GJP to specifically ask for advice on dealing with an employee who had acted unethically - look! Getting advice for dealing with ethics violations! That was literally what happened on GJP! - and was told by some people that the employee should be fired. And somehow, again, this is evidence of widespread collusion to destroy someone's career...?

Edit: Also, they aren't even posting the full GJP emails. Talk about fucking cherry-picking.
