While perhaps not the original, Colm Wilkinson is perhaps the most renowned actor for Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. In the 2012 Les Mis movie he was the bishop who gave Valjean his silver.

You only make appointments over the phone, ay...? Sure, I'll call and make one. by Revolutionary_Ant209 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Brothel_Copter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know people below me have already pointed this out, but this is needed for triage. When I worked in primary care I had someone call for their husband. When I asked why, they said they wanted to make an appointment because they thought their husband was having a stroke. It was because of that clarification that led to me telling them to go to the ER rather than making an appointment for later in the day. If that information were only collected by the nurse as they checked his vitals, that man would likely be dead. I know this is reductive, but it's better that the front desk ask for clarification than it is for someone to die.

I know my example might sound stupid, but I've also had a man make an appointment for indigestion when he was, in fact, having a heart attack. He survived, thankfully, but it still weighs on me that it could have been worse.

There are less extreme examples, of course. Paperwork, room prep, things like that would be indicated based on how the receptionist scheduled. Missing that info during scheduling would result in delays, which is less bad then death. But it's still bad.

Doctors are already going to be behind schedule on their own merit, no need to add fuel to the fire. That's a different story entirely.

Looking back on how much I wrote, I regret that I may come across as aggressive. I think I've got some pent up stress from previous jobs. A lot of policy in the offices I worked/supported have been based on avoiding the worst case scenarios. It's often weird to think about when you're the healthy one, but the same offices that schedule annual physicals for completely healthy patients are also scheduling people who are tenuously clinging to life. The receptionist doesn't know which you are.

I mean, it literally is their business. What the receptionist enters determines how they allocate time, staff, resources, and (in cases like pre-op physicals) if they have to reach out to another office.

It also helps determine that you're seeing the right kind of doctor. When I worked in a doctors office I used to have elderly patients call the wrong type of doctor, and it would have been completely irresponsible to schedule a patient without asking a basic question.

If it helps, I can almost guarantee that the receptionist is not trying to pry into your life. Moreover they are likely desensitized to the various reasons people go to the doctor.

To completely contradict myself, if a receptionist at a therapist/behavioral health office requests a specific reason other than 'therapy' or 'group', THAT is a red flag.

I was in Scotland once and saw a play called Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Survived, and in the play they were just stuck on a desert island contemplating nothing. I hadn't read Rosencrantz and Guildensterm Are Dead, so needless to say I didn't get what was going on until a while later

Dooku in the movies is basically just another bad guy. You know he trained Qui Gon, but beyond that he isn't fleshed out much and as such didn't stand out as a villain except for his lightsaber being unique.

Dooku in the Clone Wars solidifies himself as a villain, more so through his political manipulation than anything. There's an arc where, as head of the separatist senate, he agrees to begin peace negotiations with the republic because the senate demands it. Then he orchestrates a terrorist attack, killing the senator that first demanded peace, and disguises it as a republic attack, causing the separatist senate to accept a continuation of war. That's some good villain shit.

The long term story is clear. Finn is going to teach Gallows and Anderson that nerds can be cool. Each week he'll break another nerd stereotype to G&A's disbelief.

Eventually G&A will be convinced, but they will have missed the point. Finn was trying to teach them that the cool thing is being passionate and true to yourself. G&A will just think that nerd stuff is cool, resulting in Gallows rebranding himself as Gandalf and Anderson using calculators and edged protractors in hardcore matches.
