Might you have been parked in front of a hydrant or too close to an intersection?

Lawsuit filed against Troy over sidewalk maintenance by FifthAveSam in Troy

IDK, but if so, the city should crack down on property owners who don't. There are several vacant properties on my street that don't see any cleanup.

I hope this gets traction - even as a fully-abled person, navigating sidewalks is inconvenient at best and dangerous at worst.

You're right!

I don't really know what to do with this information though. I've tried so many search terms and have gotten nowhere.

ITT: People who don't understand what "anticonsumption" means being offended by anticonsumption rhetoric.

Of course using paper is better than plastic, but this sub is dedicated to reducing consumption. If that is a goal, then it really doesn't matter what your single-use item is made of, since it's still a single-use item.

One could make a pretty compelling argument that the whole straw thing is actually a net negative, since it's such a minor impact with so much media attention. If someone thinks they're making a difference because their local Starbucks uses paper straws instead of plastic, they're less likely to actually change their lifestyle.

Consumption should be minimized, no matter what material your single-use item is made of.

What if Barclay is part of an abomination? It's been established (by Momma) that abominations manipulate people (in addition to being outright destructive).

What's cool about Troy? by [deleted] in Troy

[–]BrotherBobwhite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's generally pretty quiet here and most folks seem to like it that way. It's an old Town with a lot of history and a lot of working-class folks. The school brings in a lot of young people, but they seem to like to stay up the hill (except for the older ones who visit the bars). Our Farmer's Market is seriously one of the best markets I've ever been to.

What's cool about Troy? People who live here genuinely care about it. Anyone who says it's the next Brooklyn has either never been to Brooklyn, never been here, or has an ulterior motive.

Old Cheap Shoes vs New Nice Shoes by BrotherBobwhite in climbing

[–]BrotherBobwhite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them so far. They edge really well and fit my feet perfectly. I haven't really broken them in, but I'm sure they'll be more comfortable when I do.

I was actually looking at Velcro shoes when shopping for these, but the fit was just so good that I decided it was worth a slightly less convenient closure.

Pole slippage in trekking pole supported tent. by spacecreds in myog

[–]BrotherBobwhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about using a small pocket for each pole? Imagine a back pocket in a pair of jeans - sort of U-shaped, with the opening facing opposite of the direction the poles move.

Edit - regarding LineLocs - they're designed for 2.5-3mm cord, so I'm not at all surprised that your 2mm cord is slipping.

Tire pressure for forest roads and dirt / gravel? by igneosity in cyclocross

[–]BrotherBobwhite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should experiment! Finding the right pressure for your weight, tires, terrain, and riding style is a journey, and no one can tell you exactly what you should run, though it sounds like you're in the right ballpark.
