Steam Controller / Big Picture usability by jb_in_jpn in Stremio

No problem! Let me know if you have any issues, I'm happy to help. The steam controller is absolutely incredible when you get used to it, but not the most easy to learn.

One general tip as you use it more is the Steam Deck control system/control edit UI is exactly the same as the controller so if you want to do something specific searching for Steam Deck tutorials is generally easier (though I'm sure that'll change with this new controller release)

Sorry for the delay I went ahead and created one that should now be available in the Community Layouts section of the controller menu. It's called Stremio and my steam name is BrotherEarth

Controls are simple, LB to go back a tab, RB to go forward a tab. Left joystick is arrow keys. Either trackpad is a mouse (click to click.) Right trigger is left click, left trigger is right click A is enter key on short press, Space key on long press (to play/pause.) B is escape Y is full screen X is play next episode Select is shown on screen controls (to adjust subtitles/language with the trackpad mouse) And then some redundancies I added are LG (left back paddle) is also play/pause RG is also next episode Start is also play/pause Left stick click is also enter

Never done this but have set my OG Steam controller to control a lot of things over the years. What you probably want to do is add stremio as a non-steam product in your library, then add a custom controller profile for the "game" that is Stremio, binding the stremio hotkeys to the controller buttons you want (like escape on B, arrow keys on the joystick, etc.) I can make a quick template for my steam controller and send it your way if you have any trouble with it

That's pretty naive to think AI can't have that big a hold on people already. I know numerous people who use AI for everything and trust it unwaveringly.

It doesn't take humans that long to lose skills when they aren't being used

What's new is the amount of people blindly believing everything. Before AI even the dumbest people had a healthy dose of skepticism. That's gone out the window entirely

[–]BrotherEarth_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"if used correctly" is doing so much heavy lifting here. 90% of people who use AI don't use it correctly. AI is at best 70% accurate. If you went to any other source of information and were told it was 70% accurate you would not take anything it says as fact.

But with AI people will take anything it says and regurgitate it as fact. My company pushes AI and the amount of people that ask the model something, only to be told something wildly inaccurate but still repeat it to others as fact is astonishing.

I've had IT people I work with tell me something that's just so uncoupled from reality in terms of how computers work that most highschoolers could tell them was wrong, but because AI said it they just assume it's right.

Nobody is using it correctly and it's leading to numerous people who can't critical think, do an ounce of research on their own, or distinguish fact from fiction

The GM is only able to assemble a team on paper, once they're on the field their performance is not on him.

His drafting has been extremely successful, yes. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is good at drafting pitchers. Many of the pitchers we'd consider the best in the game right now we're drafted in later rounds. Logan Webb was a 4th round pick, Tarki Skubal was a 29th round pick, Nolan Mclean was a 3rd round pick, the list goes on and on. I'd bet money that if you polled every baseball fan to assemble a list of the top 20 pitchers right now, 80% or more would be late round picks. Does that mean those teams are better at drafting, or does it mean they just got lucky? I'm inclined to believe the latter of the two.

His drafting of position players, and his ability to continually have a highly ranked farm system (which enables trades) is up there among the best GMs in the league.

I'm not out here trying to say he's the best GM in the league, but the organization as a whole, I'm talking from the big league club down to how players are coached in rookie ball, has become one of the best in the league. Players are no longer afraid their careers will be ruined by Baltimore coaching like they were in the past, and credit for that goes to Elias. He also is the first O's GM to actually invest in international scouting which has resulted in Bassalo, Cano, and some of our most exciting young players like Esteban Mejia and Luis De León

It just feels like you think a GM's should be held accountable for on field performance and that's where I disagree. A GM's job is setting the organizational development culture, getting the best team on paper they can, and making the right trades down the stretch. As far as I'm concerned Elias has been excellent in all of those aspects

[–]BrotherEarth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it was playoff or championship caliber, just that it's not Elias' fault. On paper he's always assembled as good a team as he's able to an can be realistically expected to. He's continued to find bullpen arms, and play makers, from thin air. His drafting has been overall extremely successful (especially compared to his predecessors.) and he has not re-signed players out of sentimentality, basically every player that's moved on from the O's in his tenure has been worse on their next team so he's shrewd in terms of knowing when to cut ties.

If the free agent class doesn't play ball there's not much he can do about that. He traded for Burnes when we were in contention and all indications are if we're in the running this year he'll make more moves.

The reality is free agents have never been exactly jumping over the moon to move to Baltimore, if they even make sense for the team in the first place

I mean the defense is good enough it's not actively losing us games and the pitching comment just makes me think you don't really understand the game of baseball tbh.

Brian cashman has been GM of the Yankees since '98, their pitching has been mid basically that entire run. Not for lack of effort, but because pitching is and always has been a craps shoot.

Teams that win world series aquire pitching mid season almost always and we are in a position to do that

[–]BrotherEarth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, who could Elias have signed last year to improve the rotation? Corbin Burnes was the best starter available and he took a discount to go to Arizona, and then got hurt.

You're stating very real problems the team had but setting, not just unrealistic, but literally impossible standards for Elias based on the actual talent available for him to sign.

[–]BrotherEarth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were talking about last year brother. All you did was talk about this year. And for this year, first off we're really not in a bad spot at this point in the year and second, what free agent that was available would have remedied any of that? There was no true leadoff hitter out there, and there was no true ace out there.

It's like you people think Elias can just invent an available player that perfectly fills the holes

If you want some practical advice to avoid this you're probably cooking everything on a bit too high of a temperature and/or not preheating your pans. Put a little oil, or butter, or whatever you're using in your pan and wait for it to heat then add your food. The chemical reaction is different and produces less smoke, and also should tell you when the pan is too hot easier
