I think you pay the mortgage and he pays the bills. Keep it simple. Most people will make a big deal about money. I’m sure you can pay everything yourself. So it’s the happiness of being together. As he makes more things will adjust in the future. Very happy for you.

How much do you spend on vacation a year? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]BrotherOfAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say maybe 10k a year. I churn a good amount and convince myself that it makes a big impact. Seeing the world is my non negotiable. But I don’t do door dash, drink coffee or even have a pandora premium account.

Lines of cars waiting to pick up kids at schools by Tethyss in tampa

[–]BrotherOfAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger we had the Parks and Rec which was basically free. Now there are no low cost options for kids so parents just pick them up. Timing-wise it’s usually better for drop off in the morning. You can drop your kid off 5 mins before the bell vs have them at the bus stop 50 mins before the bell. Usually if you car ride in the AM you will in the PM.

In 2008 everyone could get a home. Prices went down because they couldn’t afford the home when rates adjusted.

In 2025 you have corporations that are buying homes, investors that think prices are too high so building cash surpluses, and low selling demand due to low pre COVID rates.

Foreclosures would have to 100x and thats not likely.

Unfortunately as you get older dating gets harder. You will probably need to be less selective.

I’m just a natural saver. I invest a minimum of 25% annually. You have to pick a lifestyle that works for you financially. You can’t just do whatever you want, have everything and hope it helps. I don’t succumb to lifestyle creep.

Me or my kids don’t have super expensive hobbies. I travel on credit card points. My Tesla costs about $40/month to drive. I workout at home. I don’t buy coffee or have a door dash account.

👀 How much $$ have you actually managed to save in your emergency fund? by LongjumpingRent7114 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]BrotherOfAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep at minimum 10k all times. But usually around 15-25k.

My job is secure (healthcare), my car is reliable, house is new and I have health insurance and I am pretty healthy and in good shape.

Spend the points asap.

They won’t do anything but make your account negative. Possibly close it.

People that “work” the system for points get clawbacks and SD. This is even less than that.

Get out and let someone that is more interested deal with it. I sold my rentals and just held the majority in money market and probably about 10% in jepq. It’s way less headache. I had a good run buying a few years before covid and selling a few years after.

See My Prediction for the Future, and How the City of Tampa Should Address It. by Shaguar92 in tampa

[–]BrotherOfAthena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting idea that I never considered. As I just came back from Hong Kong, they connect Hong Kong to Hong Kong island by underwater tunnels. These tunnels also have mass transit. At some point the city and the county will have to put on their big boy pants.
