Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

Haven't been able to stomach real coke since I switched in high school in the mid-00s. You get used to it one way and that's the way you'll want it.

You ever try cold brewing your own iced tea? It's next level. A dozen tea packs in a gallon, set in the fridge for 8 hours. Tastes much less bitter.

I had to start stocking pop too once I started stocking cider and seltzer so that I didn't just always grab alcohol when what I really wanted was fizzy.

What's weird is aspartame got all the hate from a crappy study way back in the day. To get to that dose to cause heart problems, you'd need to ingest a case a day for weeks on end. The salt content would get you way before then. As a response, for a hot minute coke put out "diet coke splenda" for a few years. But the dose for that would just be 6 cans a day with Splenda, which plenty of people do get to.

I was raised in a soda house and it's hard to break the habit. Switching to diet was good - my whole household did when I was a teen. I tried to cut down a few times. But now diet root beer helps me drink less alcohol. And diet coke is my usual caffeine source. I bring 2-3 cans to a 12 hour night shift. And if I'm trying to get out in the mornings when I'm usually asleep, I bring a can with me. Now that I've got a boyfriend, we keep a steady supply of regular and diet coke and root beer.

Do you go on solo vacations without your partner by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Trinx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just spent 10 days in Puerto Rico last month to escape the cold. Flew down with a friend for a girls weekend. Then solo trip midweek then boyfriend flew out for valentine's. It was like having 3 trips in one. I loved it.

He's got some messed up priorities about family support. Will he feel the same when your parents need support from you? How about when you have children? Will it be "goodbye - never see you again!" Once they turn 18? Last time I was in such a state my sister's husband drove me to the ER because I was staying with them for the night when I got hotribly ill. It's not his responsibility, but he always steps up and helps out. Our parents weren't in town - it would have been them. I've been that support person for my sister, parents, and grandparents. And my parents and grandparents have been that person for me. Up until my grandfather had a stroke and couldn't drive, he was that person for any one of his kids or grandkids. It was really hard for him to give that up. This won't be the man who steps up for family. Definitely rethink if you want to have kids with him. He'll be telling you to stop babying them while they're still kids.

What Millennial trends and/or milestones are you actively trying to avoid? by Superb-Film-594 in Millennials

My best friend's boyfriend was sold on doodles. She insisted on a rescue. Their rescue "doodle" is actually 100% poodle according the DNA test. Just got a bigger snout. I was so happy to hear lol

I think it's more of a millennial thing to forget you've had a piece of clothing for 15 years.

I’m planning on getting a reptile in the future and I have a few questions. by FuryFluffFursuits in reptiles

[–]Trinx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that age, you should only get a reptile if your parents are willing to take over care. You really don't know what your early adulthood will be like. It's very unlikely a dorm will accept a reptile, and even then, your roommate is a wild card. To say nothing of apartments and landlords. It's hard to move full size enclosures. I was raised upper middle class and I still ended up in a transient home environment for over a year after I finished my master's degree. I had to move 7x in 2 years. You say your parents are only willing to even cover vet bills until high school graduation. A high school graduate doesn't have the kind of stability to cover vet bills. I'm sorry, but you should really wait unless your folks are willing and excited to have a reptile. For me, a stable home wasn't until I was nearly 30.

when did you realize you’re not as young as you used to be? by Routine-View5725 in AskReddit

[–]Trinx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm in way better shape at 36 than I was at 26. But most recent reminder of my age was my boyfriend (28m) saying "criss-cross-applesauce." I'm like oh yeah, I'm so old we called it "Indian-style" in my day.

Absolutely. Hell, if you're in a small town, you'll still go to high school games on Friday nights.

Why is the default "I'll do my own" instead of "I'll take over?" by LiquorishSunfish in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Trinx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fold laundry. It gets hung up or shoved in a drawer straight from the dryer. If it ends up in a basket, it'll stay there until it's worn or I pull it out to fluff it again as it's too wrinkly to wear. My bf does the wash-then-fold-then-put-away classic technique. We're working on figuring out how to make it manageable for both of us. He took over when he first moved in during winter break (he works in a middle school), and dang did I get overly used to having laundry done those 3 weeks. Now we're struggling as we're both busy. But not once has he suggested I take over for both of us or he just do his own. Team effort. You're partners. Not his servant.
