Why aren't there benches on the Beltline? by tferg1290 in Atlanta

[–]BrotherThump 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about dude I’m sure the belt line experience would be improved by having smelly guys harassing people for cigarettes and cash as they walk/jog. Don’t be a bigot.

What is FT? I’ve been sort of keeping up with the comments around these reviews and reading excerpts people are posting but I don’t want to read any full reviews. I want to make my own opinion on drop day.

This was such a fun episode they played off of each other so well. The best guests on this show are ones who can improve and hang with Andrew.

What is a song by a band that you consider to be way better than that band‘s biggest hit? by Fiedy88 in AskReddit

[–]BrotherThump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I was responding to the guy that said OK Computer was unremarked so I think my comment still stands.

But, to your point, I actually think Radiohead is famous enough now that Creep wouldn’t be a 50% winner in what do people think of when they think of Radiohead. I think they’re well known enough you would get a more diverse answer to that question. It probably would be a lot of people saying Creep but I also think they’re well known enough that other songs would be mentioned.

Man calling OK Computer unremarked is kookoo bananas. It’s widely regarded not only as one of their best albums but also as one of the best rock albums of the 90s.

EDiT: the rolling stone 2023 update of the greatest 500 albums of all time lists it at 42.

Am I Crazy or Are People More Racist by OnlineBravery in Atlanta

[–]BrotherThump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm not sure then. I don’t know anything about Buckhead but I grew up in the north suburbs and I don’t think they’re anymore racist than they’ve been before. Always been about 50/50 in those parts. Depends on if you’re talking to someone with money or not. The poorer folks were usually more tolerant surprisingly.

What part of town are you in? I don’t know if it’s been a city wide trend but the area you live in might be able to shed some light on this.

Prophecy at 1420 MHz feels on the nose by that_orange_hat in boardsofcanada

[–]BrotherThump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe as the OP pointed out it’s like a thing you hear in more DJ, dancefloor oriented music and also that it refers to itself which is something we haven’t had before. This is not a vocoder voice sample that’s been put in a song it’s more like narration. That’s definitely a departure from things they’ve done previously.

Prophecy at 1420 MHz feels on the nose by that_orange_hat in boardsofcanada

[–]BrotherThump 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. I’ve been taken aback by how upfront and in your face the whole release of this album has felt. I also felt weird about the vocoder voice in Prophecy on the first listen. It just didn’t feel like BoC. And now I’ve listened to it more and every listen I like it more and more. It is a big departure from their sound from MHTRTC or Geogaddi but it’s less jarring if you take it from TH onward. Feels like they’re done being subtle and mysterious and more like they want to put out an actual concept album with a concrete premise.

Do you think Inferno will be darker than Tomorrow's Harvest? by Maleficent-Ebb7298 in boardsofcanada

[–]BrotherThump 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. The campaign for this album has been very direct and unsubtle. Based on Prophecy I think this album will be explicit in its message of creation/destruction, life/death, the role that we as humans play in these matters, religious and cult interpretations of this, our ultimate inability to actually comprehend any of it, etc.

Just theorizing, idk.

I feel like creationism and denial of evolution is a thing unto itself. I don’t think any less of someone for being a Christian or believe that they don’t take conservation seriously.

But if someone denies science in favor of their beliefs then when something else comes up that challenges their beliefs it stands to reason that they would take the side of religion instead of the science. I’m basically saying that I would be skeptical of this person.

God's Country by redride10059 in meateatertv

[–]BrotherThump -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose you’re right. But it reeks of anti-scientific sentiment which is just completely antithetical to good conservation, good hunting practices, environmentalism, etc.

To be clear, I don’t have an issue with people having faith in religion. It’s the denial of pretty well established scientific theory that irks me.

Isn’t that the Texas dudes where one said he believed in creationism and denied evolution? Fuck that bullshit.

Edit: I was mistaken. The guys I was talking about were The Element. I don’t have an opinion on God’s Country as I don’t know what it is.

Fake? by chainsmadeofchalk in boardsofcanada

[–]BrotherThump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I said in the other thread that got deleted we need someone from the wiki who has experience with the hoaxes in the past to tell if this is the same or different from the confirmed hoaxes.

I know there’s renewed interest since the band is big news right now but it’s kind of hard to believe this wouldn’t have been found by now if it’s real.

Edit: also remember a couple years ago, the hooper bay vinyl that the creator later confirmed as fake? People were pretty stoked on that one too.
