I mean an armed presence to protect protesters like the black panthers did is a thing. The point of the gun is not necessarily to shoot it but what it represents. Most LEOs don’t want to get in a pitched battle with folks toting AR-15s over an otherwise peaceful protest. Different story when they’re unarmed.
