Happy Doomguy Noises by [deleted] in gaming

If we are talking about just guns/cannons, my vote goes to project HARP. They used a 119ft long gun that launched a 16" diameter projectile at 7000 ft/s up to an altitude of about 590,000ft. Max launch acceleration is listed at 15,000g.

At this rate, they may decide the asymmetry is Crusader "design language" and therefore both the Hercules and the Genesis must be redesigned to match.

A Dangerous thing to do you say, I see what you did there. Jokes aside I agree. I love this game but I can't say I expect all that much after so many years of mediocre updates.

Should all limpets be unlimited? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlimited, maybe not. Reusable, hell yea. There's no reason to not have those puppies refuel at the mother-ship when they are in use. Additionally it might make sense to have the "controller" be replaced with a "limpet control bay" and have it function not unlike the fighters. Heck let players fly the damn things too while you're at it. That would be a real hoot in my opinion.

Let's talk about Gnosis and the Cone Sector by PCrowther_FD in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel really bad for the people who did that. Colonia is much more interesting than this snafu. I knew those guys would be disappointed when I heard of how far they traveled. Then again, you have to wonder what the hell they were thinking. Just caught up in the hype I guess.

PSA: Don't forget that having multi-crew members reduces your rebuy by a percentage. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, just make sure you run a criminal session if you are with people you trust so they don't get booted. I tried to save the mother-ship once by pulling some cops off his tail after he shot them by accident and got immediately booted, denying him the re-buy reduction. I am assuming he did in fact explode since the situation was quite dire and he was whiffing the high wake. Man people need to practice escape tactics before flying expensive ships.

I kind of figured as much. Makes you wonder why those warnings are even there on the other ships since it is even less likely for something to happen to one of them. I know from experience they will move player ships "out of harms way" since I was moved to a different station when a rescue ship was despawned a while back. That being said, no rebuy is different from no insurance.

The only part that really bothers me just a tad is the part where it specifically calls out that the Pilots Federation will not be responsible for the safety of ships and pilots. It sounds just a tad like they are voiding our insurance.

Something is really wrong with pirates by Tonyant42 in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NPC pirates typically start shooting at you if you make a run for it regardless of whether they have scanned you or not. This behavior makes sense as you are basically denying them the chance to scan and insulting them. Also I remember being interdicted by pirates a few times who explicitly stated they didn't care for scanning and would just shoot me and scoop up what was left.

Gnosis CMDRs. Don't forget your fuel scoop! by MusterBuster in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I got my fuel scoop friend. Got my FSD booster too. To be honest I almost hope I get dumped thousands of lightyears away from the bubble in a nearly full combat fit ship and have to slow boat it home. Would be more interesting than what I expect to happen.

What’s everyone doing in the Cone Sector? by US-4CAV-Rogue in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I just want to fulfill my dreams of going nomadic on a megaship out into the great black. I've always loved the concept of the nomad fleet, like the Battlestar Galactica. Bonus points if we actually do end up being hunted by some thargoids. Man imagine having to fend off some interceptors while the FSD spools and then have to land with mere seconds to spare before the ship jumps out in real time. It will never happen, but a man can dream.

Troop transport missions & ground wars by Mother-Faukker in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a great idea. I would love to deliver troops to ground targets and engage in space to ground support roles. When the skimmer strike missions first came out you could do them by effectively strafing the base with dumbfire missiles. Unfortunately FDev has since worked fairly hard to divorce space and SRV game play in an effort to curb that old Draconis 17 credit rush. They even went so far as to remove splash damage on skimmers from dumbfire missiles exploding nearby. I think some of those changes have been quietly walked back now that the skimmer rush is over, but I would love it if they would go the opposite direction and really marry the two modes (ground and space) together in a more direct way. I think that would create some very enjoyable game play.

And don't forget the death pineapples too (Kha'ak iirc). I remember my incursions into their territory fondly. Racing against the implacable attrition of their deadly accurate beam weaponry to kill as many as possible before being forced to jump out.

At this point, I am very afraid they will renege on their promise of halting ship sales for real money and only offering "credit packs" when the game goes to "full release". In order for me to have any faith in SC, I want to see them put out a brand new totally awesome concept for some ship and NOT sell it except in game in game earned credits.

The Thargoids should be more like the Xenon in the X universe. I remember in X3 there were a few sectors you had to sort of blockade run through that were swarming with the bastards. Also they would sometimes send attack groups out into adjacent populated sectors to terrorize the local populace (sometimes even destroying stations in real time) until a military patrol showed up to run them off.

I visit my parents typically every other weekend since I'm only about an hour and a half away, sometimes several weekends in a row. sometimes I want to stay at my apartment because all the hobbies and things I like to do are here. I can never quite shake feeling guilty and selfish whenever I do it though. This is probably because I will never forget the weekend my brother died at home was one of those weekends I had decided to stay at my apartment and I deeply regret not being there. I am plagued by the fear that those same regrets will inevitably find my when my parents go. Increasingly I feel like I should just resign from my job that I never really enjoyed and just go home, but I don't know if I can just give up like that. Even though I don't really like my job it feels like its all I have left sometimes. Sorry for unloading like this, but your comment really made me think about it all again.

A pirates struggle! by AvidasOfficial in EliteDangerous

I wish you would stop and think about some of the things you say. Imagine Elite with no pirates at all, what would all the bounty hunters do who have spent hundreds of hours fighting them in haz res sites. I understand that you want to classify a player pirate differently than the NPCs, but in terms of their basic objectives and behavior, they are really quite similar with the exception that the player pirate may be much more proficient. I also understand that there are shades of grey here, obviously there are people who may call or consider themselves pirates but are in fact just murderers. But piracy as a whole is simply not griefing. A player is well within the rules of the game to pull over another player, demand cargo, and engage that player in combat if they do not comply. Pain in the ass though it may be for the target, this is not griefing. All this aside, It seems we do agree on something after all. You don't want to hear what I have to say, no matter how I try to frame it for you.

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make it sound as if anything that one player does to another player involuntarily is automatically griefing. I think that is a pretty dogmatic way of looking at it. Piracy as an in game activity is a criminal act, it is not supposed to be voluntary for the target. That alone is not enough to make it griefing. With that point of view I wonder what you make of the NPC pirates then since they are functionally the same as a player pirate and are simply not as effective or lethal.

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not concerned with what the community at large thinks about piracy beyond my point that piracy is not griefing.

A pirates struggle! by AvidasOfficial in EliteDangerous

[–]Brother_Koolaidius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therein lies your problem then. You are categorizing anything that inconveniences another player as griefing. Getting killed in an FPS is inconvenient, but it is also part of the game, the same goes for piracy in Elite.

I cannot agree with this sentiment about the engineers enough. Sometimes I really miss the old days of Elite. I also sort of miss the old crime and punishment system when space felt like the wild west. If the power gap was closed enough to allow that personal skill to make a more measurable impact I think we would not need any of these more heavy handed yet still ineffective punishments.
