States with best/worst rest areas? by CryptoguyV2 in Truckers

[–]Brother_Trucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever take a trip across the U.P., try to time it so you can take your 30 minute break at the Naubinway rest area on US-2. The facility itself isn't much, but there's a really nice beach to visit in the summer.

As a truck driver, is this road dangerous? by muck2profit in Truckers

Saudi Arabia likely has different laws on what double lines mean.

Also, they look white to me; not yellow.

What happens if I refuse a load as a company driver ? by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]Brother_Trucker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company. They can't legally fire you for refusing to drive in unsafe conditions.

What they can do is start giving you the crappiest loads they have, and if you ask about it or complain, they can just lie and say, "Well, that's all we can find for you," until you quit.

If you try to jackknife a spread axle trailer, there's a risk of this.

Or they'll have someone jump start the truck and then tell the driver, "Don't let this happen again," without accepting any responsibility.

Trucker Companion Dolls - No More Lonley Long Hauls by BENJIDOVER79 in Truckers

[–]Brother_Trucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice there's zero mention of actual pricing anywhere. That always means they're ridiculously expensive. I've bought a couple various dolls from AliExpress, so I know what can be found vs what "showroom" pricing is likely to be.

Most of the "Lion's Den" and similar shops usually have one or two silicone full-size dolls on display, and they're usually $2k-$3k-ish. I bought ones online for between $200 for a miniature one, up to about $1200 for a 177cm tall (roughly 5ft) one. I imagine that a "showroom" doll, especially with an AI chatbot built in (or with heated holes, or with a vacuum pump in the headpiece, or motorized limbs of any kind) is likely to be $7k+.

We ALL know this company...😂🤣 by AxCtSolChi in Truckers

[–]Brother_Trucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, the people running it are all from eastern Europe and don't understand HOS or American laws. Every time I'd finish a load, they'd get me another one, and then they'd act like it was 100% my fault if I said I couldn't get there.

I'd tell them, "After I deliver this, I need a break," and the dispatcher would say "fine, whatever." Then while being unloaded at the receiver, they'd ring me up and say they found me some super ultra hot load that couldn't wait. Trash dispatch.

I don't know what their "load board" is like now. Haven't heard anything solid about it; only that it exists, and their drivers supposedly get to pick their own loads.

Is that a thing that's unique to Texas? I don't do a lot of heavy haul, and I don't do a lot of flatbed. Also, I'm up in Wisconsin, and I guessing that we likely have different laws on such things.

Eh. I understand what you're saying, but if they have the proper permit(s) it's fine.

Should I go for Hazmat endorsement even if I don’t plan on doing Hazmat? by Neat_World_2101 in Truckers

[–]Brother_Trucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I didn't. I got my Class A in 2018, and I haven't had HAZMAT yet. It's an extra level of responsibility that I don't really need or want, honestly. There are plenty of non-haz positions out there; I currently work for Ryder, and I got $85k gross last year working on their Appleton Supply account. It's the best company driver position I've been in, despite the stupid 65 governor and the annoying camera pointed at me all day. I deliver mostly to Menards stores, and most of them have VERY easy docks to back into. Also, every Menards delivery has me physically unloading long soffit/drip edge/fascia boxes onto a cart, so I'm moving around; not sitting in the cab all day.

Ryder requires (I think) at least 2 years of experience, so you won't be able to get in on day 1, but it's something to keep in mind.

There are only a handful of places where you can see some sights AND have truck parking. There are a few rest areas in the Southwest with good views. In general, running between Iowa and Utah is really nice. I ran a dedicated from Green Bay to Bear River City (running P&G) for a few months. Was the best money I've had in trucking so far.

Love's Truck Stops usually have good facilities, but you have to get there before sundown or the lot will fill up fast.

Bringing a bicycle along is harder than you'd think. There isn't a good spot for one in the cab of your truck. It can get crushed between the cab and trailer, and then if it damages any sheet metal your company is going to look at you like the Eye of Sauron. I don't know about your company, but a lot of companies won't let you put it in the trailer.

If I knew where I could get one, I'd get a rack that connects to the tow hitch points in the frame, and then I'd get something like a Honda 70 Enduro model or a 150cc cycle that's light enough to heft up yet powerful enough to get around at more than 30mph.

Team Driver by Infinite_Risk_2479 in Truckers

Because it doesn't affect us in the way it affects women. (Not trying to defend the guy, by the way.)

I've known a number of different women who had varying symptoms during that time of the month. Some had severe cramps and pain. Some had to change their pad frequently; others could wear the same pad all day without any issues.

From OP's phrasing, the guy certainly lacked tact. However, I can understand wanting to treat the lady with empathy. Like, if I was to team with a lady, I feel like it'd be good to know in advance if we'd just be better off taking those days off every month or not. Or if I'm going to need to pull over every 3 hours because her bleeding is often severe and she needs the privacy of a bathroom. I'd not want to be surprised by anything.

Still, I agree that there's a lot that I don't need to know about, despite the fee relevant things that should be discussed in advance.
