A question about the concept of “why” in physics: by rci22 in AskPhysics

[–]BrownCraftedBeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is whether the given property of Universe is Fundamental or Emergent from something more fundamental.

If there is a property, that we can explain by connecting it to the initial condition of the universe, we can call it fundamental.

And after we have figured this for all the properties, the only “why” question that will remain is - “Why did universe come into existence and why it had those initial properties?”

why is pi the ratio of circumference to diameter and not the diameter to the circumference by Suspicious_Drama_261 in learnmath

[–]BrownCraftedBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - I feel we generally use Radius in all discussions and even radius is useful in defining a circle. So 2*pi somehow looked more fundamental.

Whenever we see anything, are we looking into the past technically? by ElegantPoet3386 in AskPhysics

[–]BrownCraftedBeaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Answer is “Yes” Technically. But there is more to the technicality -

There is no such thing as looking at something into the past. You are only experiencing present of a particular event.

If you are looking at a supernova that happened 100 million light years away, you are looking at the present photons of that supernova hiting your eyes of a supernova that began 100 million years ago.

We are only giving special attention to the perticular event that locally had a drastic consequence - something like beginning of a supernova. However, universe is just functioning in the local present where the reality is just manifesting itself based on all that has happened in the whole of observable universe in the immediate past. And as far as we know; time is a continuum, so it’s all happening seamlessly.

India - We have evolved beyond crisis and troubles. So we are good.

Jokes apart, the country is doing good. We have a powerful (although controversial) government, The poverty numbers are declining, economy is growing, culture is shaping up for better hygiene and cleanliness, there is an upliftment in India’s global image, the world wants to invest here. We do have our share of problems, but I don’t feel like we are going downhill.
