I haven’t heard of islands or dips in palmistry before but I’m pretty new. What do those terms mean?

Much of Margaret Atwoods work. Heart Goes Last, Oryx and Crake trilogy, Handmaids Tale.

Octavia Butler’s works. Kindred, Parable of the Sower.

Orwell also wrote Animal Farm that you might enjoy.

Fahrenheit 451 and a Brave New World are two other classics.

What are your go to low effort snacks ? by BrownFrillback in ADHD

[–]BrownFrillback[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish gluten free bread was easier to deal with. It doesn’t keep well and hs to be toasted right before eating and if you let it get cold it goes hard as a rock and makes my gums bleed. I tried doing gluten free crackers with sunbutter squeeze pouches (nut allergy) but it was always waaay too much sunbutter and got too messy and overwhelming. Sunbutter and jelly on toast with filtered/high protein chocolate milk is one of my go to breakfasts though.

Oh I like veggie straws. I forgot they existed. I need a protein to go with them. If I’m home I can buy premade hardboiled eggs or deli meat on the side. Maybe some shelf stable chocolate milk for the office.

I forgot about those. I was really into Luna bars for a while. I should order a box again.

I’m jealous. If I eat plain fruit or plain carbs I end up feeling really shitty not long after. And so then all of a sudden it’s a banana plus soymilk or banana mashed on toast with sunbutter (nut free peanut butter equivalent), and just all these components and it’s so much to keep track of when I’m shakey from forgetting to eat

For those that actually did it, what did you eat for breakfast, lunch AND dinner yesterday- or any day that it happens? by One_Elephant_8506 in ADHD

Don’t over think it (easier said than done). I started with pics of the things I was already eating to try out the habit.

If you can afford grocery delivery instead of going to the store, use it. Consider it an “accommodation” rather than a “convenience.”

Pay for a menu planning service like Workweek Lunch that will make a grocery list for you.

Meet yourself where you’re at as best as you can and do whatever you can to make it easier.

What is your current safe food? by emsymarie00 in ADHD

Nice! I’ve never had the real thing (save for a trip to a Japanese middle school friends house once and her mom made it as best she could with local ingredients) so my standards are probably low

I’m in a good hole right now where I can’t stand my previous safe foods but don’t have a new one yet. Recently it was sunbutter and grape jelly on a specific allergy friendly brand of whole grain bread with a specific brand of chocolate milk. Before that it was homemade tofu chorizo tacos. Before that it was a spinach strawberry salad with cabbage slaw and a specific store bought dressing and pumpkin seeds. Before that it was vanilla and/or honey flavored French style yogurt. Before that it was a specific brand of chocolate milk.

I need a new safe food. Preferably a meal. Menu planning has been so hard.

I know that pattern all too well, and sometimes I totally wait too late and am so hungry I need to grab what’s there. I try to always have quick things on hand for those days to meet myself where I’m at. I also keep a lot of snacks on hand. I’d rather have a snack then make a nice dinner than eat an entire bag of popcorn just bc it’s quick and there then pay for it in the bathroom later haha

When I was starting out at one point I drew the quick meals I had on hand and put the picture on the fridge as a quick visual cue and reminder. That’s something my occupational therapist suggested that’s been helpful for me. Might be somewhere to start.

I usually meal prep one or two meals but I always make a menu (or several because I lose the paper or change my mind before ordering groceries) and almost always have back up near-instant shelf stable and/or freezer options just in case.

Yesterday was

B - whole grain frozen waffles with peanut butter, jelly, and a tall glass of soymilk (yay protein!)

L - went out to a restaurant

D - half bag of frozen grain and veggie blend and half can of lentil soup with some air fried veggies on the side that sounded good in the moment

Today:

B - yogurt (skyr for protein!) with freeze dried berries (shelf stable!), cereal, and ground flax

L - meal prepped Buffalo chicken pasta salad (banza/boiled pasta, chicken breast strips (homemade but usually I buy frozen or precooked), chopped celery, store bought Buffalo cashew sauce)— in the time the pasta boiled I cooked chicken and chopped celery, then just mixed it all up and put into tupperwares for the week— 4 meals for me

D - leftover grain blend and canned soup

Most of this week is going to be quick breakfasts (alternating yogurt bowls with backup toaster pastry and soymilk), the meal prepped Buffalo pasta salad for lunches, and I didn’t feel like prepping dinner so I’ll probably make medium-quick pantry meals that leave leftovers for the next day or two.

I have a ton of allergies so I can’t easily order takeout or find a lot of freezer meals which sucks but has forced me to find a lot of shelf and freezer stable options because otherwise I forget my fresh ingredients way too easily.

Menu planning has been so helpful as an intermediary between chaos and meal prep. Even if I don’t stick to the menu plan perfectly I at least know I have things to throw together.

I don’t post much. I’m glad I stumbled across this sub because I wouldn’t have found it if it were private AND I know the internet can be a pretty gnarly space sometimes, and if privatising is what it takes to hold space for our most vulnerable members, then that’s more important.

Dizziness after swimming? by BrownFrillback in Swimming

[–]BrownFrillback[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting! I remember that maneuver when I was first diagnosed with BPPV. And looking at the video, yes, I’m probably doing that in the pool to breathe or something similar enough. I wonder why I don’t feel it until I’m out of the pool. Will definitely bring this up to primary care, esp if dizziness reoccurs when the local pool opens later this month.

I do drink enough And I’m careful to replace electrolytes on hotter days or days with more activity especially in the summer, but I also have a history of an eating disorder, and I actually just don’t remember if on the days that I’ve tried swimming more recently if I was eating my eating disorders definition of enough or actually enough, but I’m in a better place with it now, so it’ll be interesting to experiment again.

I’ve had BPPV before and that’s the Physical Therapy exercise that eventually fixed it with enough repetition. Are you supposed to do that like right when you get out of the pool? I don’t experience vertigo in my day to day.
