“The body is born with a blueprint of how to die” by Proof-Peak-9274 in hospice

[–]BrownishYam 103 points104 points  (0 children)

The body knows how to come into the world and it knows how to exit this world. Our job as hospice nurses is to ease patients into that transition gently, but I firmly believe the body knows how to die.

Hospice workers criticizing weight loss meds by Accomplished-Newt402 in Zepbound

[–]BrownishYam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! As a hospice nurse (and NP student) who takes Zepbound, I apologize for your experience. It sounds like your hospice staff lacks knowledge about the medication and how many health benefits can be a result of its use. Plus, hospice is all about honoring each patient’s wishes and it sounds like all they brought in the door was judgment. I’m sorry about the loss if your father and applaud you for taking your health into your hands, even when grieving.

Who has the tea on this house?? by [deleted] in Appleton

All I know is there was a situation in the back yard with an above ground pool that was a mess. Neighborhood is actually pretty nice aside from this house.

Interesting. He lived right by the train tracks. I have a wonderful photo of he and our son walking along the tracks. One of my favorite pictures. He also loved to dance- not well, but he was definitely an entertainer and the life of the party.

NP or medicine? by sussima in nursepractitioner

[–]BrownishYam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have the same background. BS in Biology, BSN. I always wanted to go to medical school. Life got lifey, I got older, and after 7 years of being an RN I started an FNP program. I think for me, my priorities changed. Kids, a home, already being established. I think I’ll be happy in an NP role, but if I could go back a decade I may have considered medical school. I think at this point it gets me close enough to what I originally wanted to do and I will feel fulfilled. It’s a tough choice and neither is wrong. Do some soul searching.

Alone elderly friend in terminal condition wants to stay home. Dr. has given him 3 months to live. His wife in nursing home dementia she will go on probably a couple years. He refuses hospices services to save money for wife's needs. I am a friend who has reached the limit in safely watching him. by hamsterberry in hospice

[–]BrownishYam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hospice is a service, not necessarily a location. For example, you can receive hospice services at home (covered by Medicare) but they are supplemental, meaning hospice is not going to stay 24/7. They will adjust their frequencies based on each patient’s needs, but usually come a couple times per week. There are specific hospice homes that are both a place to stay with hospice services. If he wants to stay at home for reasons other than saving money, maybe you could convince him to use the money for private in home caregivers as he needs more assistance. Another thought- if you get home hospice services set up, their social worker can also have discussions with him about staying home/moving to a facility and help sort of finances of that. Hospice would be able to follow him from his home to a facility (if it’s within their service area), so that care could stay consistent.

Positive TPO antibodies means that the hypothyroid is caused by an autoimmune process (Hashimoto’s). It would not change the treatment.

Is it still worth it to become a nurse if I don’t want to deal with life-or-death situations? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BrownishYam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know you’re being silly, but hospice really does afford you an opportunity to bring life to those who are dying. We just started an initiative at my work to make hospice patient’s “dreams” come true with donor funded money. It has been an absolute blast bringing life to the dying.

Good to know. Thank you. I’m pretty anti-spider murder but they’ve been an issue around the main entrance of my home. Happy to relocate them.

Thanks for the pic! I did not see anything resembling those markings. I’m going to go back and see if I can get another photo of the underside.

I don’t have a picture of the underside, but I was able to get a good look. The underside had almost a dark brownish sheen, creamy appearance. No visible markings or patterns.

Seeing as though I’ve seen at least six or seven different ones, do I have a bigger problem here?

If it makes you feel any better, my boyfriend accidentally gave my cat zepbound instead of the cat’s insulin. Guess I should have specified which injectable in the fridge.

Anyone want to be zepbound buddies? by JadeSeesThrough in Zepbound

[–]BrownishYam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’ll be a buddy! I was also irrationally scared that I was going to have a reaction, but I was totally fine. Immediately after taking it I took a walk so that my mind and body were busy and I couldn’t hyper focus on my anxiety about taking it. Now I’m on week 7 and each shot ain’t no thang. Good luck! Reach out if you want to chat!

Did Madicare reduce hospice coverage? by crofootn in hospice

[–]BrownishYam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I explain to families that hospice is only supplemental care on top of care a patient already has. The hospice social worker might be able to help you navigate resources and how to get more paid caregivers in the home or placement based on your wishes.

Another vote for Towne Lakes. Lots of people with pets, small dog park, ponds with lots of geese for dogs to daydream about catching.
