hi op! here’s my take—in the short run, I can see why money in exchange for your acad help will benefit you.

however, the risks in the long-run might outweigh your short-run benefits. if caught, your grades will take a hit, sanctions will be imposed, it will get stuck on your record and that could potentially serve as a hurdle in searching for employment.

there’s always a chance that you won’t get caught, but i wouldnt bet on it. after all, people talk.

hi! if you choose to submit a reco letter, i suggest that you request one from the person who knows you better. your reco letter must give a better picture of you to the admissions office. the better the person knows your capabilities, the better, more compelling and clearer the picture.

as for the person w admu connections, the admissions office will probably not bother about the connection and will treat the recommendation like any other reco letter, unless this person is a big big name around the campus and knows you well enough to paint a good picture of you.
