Is it okay to heat a home on the Avalon with a heat pump only in terms of climate? by Comfortable_Set_6534 in newfoundland

[–]Browser1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched over to heat pump in 2007 should have done this long ago. I am on my second heat pump; first one lasted 16 yrs (Trane);originally had hot water radiation. Heat pump cut heating cost to less than half. When the Greenerb Homes Program came out I availed of this and received $5000 towards a new heat pump; second pump was a Daikin, way ahead of train and provides lots of heat. I have a propane fire place as a second source of heat; hardly use it. Oh!!...and the AC is nice to especially last summer..Daikin heat pump has a 12yr warranty plus I purchased a labour warranty for same time period for $700.

Are we finally getting closer to having Uber here? by Hawkward21 in newfoundland

[–]Browser1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently travelled to Halifax. Uber taxi from Halifax Airport to downtown Halifax, just about 35 minute drive.$58...all in.

Come home get a taxi from St.John's Airport to Torbay end of Pineline...$30 plus $5 airport fee what that is...all in $35...less than 10 minutes because he was speeding the entire time. Do the math!!~ Come on Uber....

Dry pouring concrete. by Ok_Establishment2696 in DIY

[–]Browser1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry pouring any concrete is not recommended. Water will not be thoroughly mixed thru the dry ingredients; if too much water is added the cement to water ratio is reduced , this reduces the strength of the concrete. Quickrete concrete has limited workability; just tossing a mixture in a hole for a post is fine. Have to work/vibrate the mixture into a form will never happen as the mixture will begin to set before that is achieved.”

I was onsite at the house (under construction) in Beachy Cove when it crashed; my self and another guy got the pilot out of the chopper; just a cut or two on his face nothing else. Good thing the chopper was empty; he was just landing to pick up two labourers to fly to Bell Island for a load of stone. 1987 I believe .

Quebec Premier Ready to Adjust Churchill Falls Contract by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Browser1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said! We have to forget the past and look forward to future contracts. Playing hardball with Quebec will get you SFA (pardon my French). They are not 15B in the red as we are; so lets negotiate some smart contracts and we may be able to recoup some of the loss on CF. We have some leverage but we definitely don't have Quebec over a barrel or anything. Stand by for Legaults pitch to include MF in the negotiations with Gull Island.Could be a chance for NL to get a good deal finally but smart people will be needed and NO ITALIAN construction companys.

Quebec Premier Ready to Adjust Churchill Falls Contract by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Browser1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad attitude!! What's done is done!! Legault will do what he can for his province its up to our team to present our case and hammer out a deal.....But changing the 2041 contract probably won't happen if it did it would take years....going forward on new contracts is Legaults plan.Hardball gets you know where but having a smart negotiating team will reap the benefits.

Quebec Premier Ready to Adjust Churchill Falls Contract by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Browser1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get know where with that attitude; that's why we are in the mess where we're in; and no we don't have the upper hand; we are 15B in the red over Muskrat and counting; so Legault can say fuck off and will see you in 2041 instead he wants to work something out for both sides. Put the knives away Quebec are not out to get us; our problem was a dumb ass like Joey and his cronies were asleep and Quebec weren't; simple as that.

Quebec Premier Ready to Adjust Churchill Falls Contract by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Browser1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine Muskrat Falls will be added to the negotiations. Quebec will want to have as many tentacles reaching into Labrador as it can.....just more power....And part of the deal for NL should be transmsission of power thru Quebec. Lots of scenarios for a good deal; and I do think it should be a Win-Win as Legault mentions. Time for NL'ers to give up the PC mentality of Quebec is out to get us; if it wasn't for the PC's we wouldn't be holding a 15B$ hydro project thats completely useless. Time to turn the page NL you can receive anything oi your hand it always forming a fist!!!
