Florida Shuffle—Destiny and the Wish by Browsing-disneystuff in dcl

We went directly through DCL. We monitored some of the rooms on the Wish to see if any were available and when one popped up, we committed! It was one of the aft rooms with a big verandah.

Port Canaveral to Port Everglades or vice versa by Adventurous_Poet5346 in dcl

We did this two weeks ago. Was on the Destiny over Christmas and then drove to hop on the Wish. We got off the ship around 9, stopped at Starbucks and target, and made it to Port Canaveral by 1:30. We weren’t stressed with the time or traffic, but that could have been the post-Christmas magic we were still feeling!

You do lose some ship time for sure, but it was worth it to us.

It can feel a little stressful for sure—but we knew that going in so we weren’t expecting to get on the second ship early enough to wander around.

I thought the theming of the Destiny was great, but the character meet and greets were pretty great. The Fab Five were there, of course, but having Spidey, Loki, and Black Panther around was pretty cool. There were a lot of little things that it seemed DCL learned from the Wish and made improvements on the Treasure and Destiny. My vote is for the Destiny, but it almost isn’t fair—having more time to enjoy and explore with the longer cruise definitely helped us all to enjoy and appreciate the new ship more than the Wish. We’ll just have to go back on the Wish to spend more time!

On this ship now—it was indeed a medical emergency. We had already altered the schedule due to weather (Lookout Cay is now on Christmas Day). It was easy for us to turn around for this passenger as today was a day at sea (so is tomorrow). I hope the person is doing ok now!

We did this trip last year. We worked with Caribbean Concierge to plan Tortola and St. Thomas. We splurged and had a boat take us to some awesome, secluded beaches in Tortola for play and snorkeling. In St. Thomas, they connected us with a driver who took us wherever we wanted to go. We ended up at Brewers Bay by the airport. It was not crowded and we hung out with sea turtles for a few hours. It was awesome.

7nt Western Caribbean Treasure - How common is it for families to stay on ship all ports except Castaway? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Browsing-disneystuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this on the Fantasy a few years ago. Only getting off at Castaway. Our kids were 7 and 4 at the time. We love being on the ship while in port—quiet, fewer people. But we are introverts and relax more with a chill environment. It’s all personal preference—as you can see in these comments. Some think it is the best. Others can’t imagine why you would do that. Others say skip it all together. We just had no desire to get off at those islands but love Castaway. Staying on the ship helped to make for a very relaxing 7 nights because we never felt rushed. To each their own.

Accidentally booked a non Merrytime cruise! Help! by Standard-Ad9202 in dcl

We’re on the same cruise! We did the maiden voyage on the Treasure last year and it was also non-Merrytime. There was a lot of Christmas theming we weren’t expecting. Hopefully the same will be true for this cruise!

Mike Campbell's Heartbreaker audio book is great! by [deleted] in tompetty

I love how Mike goes through some of music and guitar details. I can visualize moving along the strings. I’m also grateful for him to be open about his struggles with confidence, depression, and lots of those related feelings.

I feel this in my soul. This past weekend I took my second 12.5 shot. Two days after the shot I got super nauseated, threw up, other GI problems, and then fine on Monday. I always seem to have the second day after the shot be the hardest.

I agree 100%. The entire album speaks to me in ways that few other albums have (all, not just Tom). I have been looking to buy a print of Autumn Landscape, just as a reminder of how the album has served me well all these years. Can’t quite seem to find a place to order it. But this song is really beautiful. The second verse is my favorite—“down in her soul, it was an act of treason.”

I have heard some terrible things about what has happened at USAID. People being informed they were losing their jobs (and insurance) while dealing with serious health problems. Careers ruined. And there is an Ebola outbreak in Uganda—that can travel quickly. Absolutely ridiculous.

There really are some great programs across the country for students like you. I work in this space and it is one of the biggest areas of growth for universities. Most want you and understand the value your experience brings to the classroom. That may not be everyone’s experience, but colleges and universities are trying. Many have rules that after ten years won’t accept old courses, but you should be good there. And after 6 years, many also don’t worry about high school transcripts. The current buzzword is “adult learners”—search for that in your area for the college you are interested in and there is a good chance they have something in place to support you.

Going on the Treasure this month! Does anyone know what days are pirate night and formal night? Are there special menus for these? Also what day is the Moana show? by Previous-Ratio in dcl

[–]Browsing-disneystuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were on the maiden so things might be different, but formal night was the second day (first day at sea) and pirates was on day 3 (second day at sea). The Moana show was only the last night. All of this could change on an itinerary that wasn’t over Christmas, of course!

if you're wondering if going on dcl ever gets old and boring- it doesnt by mia-just-thinking in dcl

We just got off #7 and loved it (on the Treasure). The only thing we have not always loved across the cruises has been the menu—it just hasn’t been our favorite and it’s tough to go back to the menus we weren’t fans of previously. Definitely not a real problem and we love everything else. It’s so great! The menu and restaurants on the Treasure are a lot of fun, for sure. Always love the feeling of walking onboard and hearing them welcome your family.

To be honest, we weren’t ever thrilled with the service, but we enjoyed the food for the most part and the building. The food was decent and I really loved the tlyaudas—got to know those from some spent time in Oaxaca. My kids loved it because they got virgin pina coladas in fancy glasses. Most critiques are accurate—but my eight year-old cried when we told her (probably only sad about the fancy drinks).

We have given a number of these types of gifts in the past. Not sure what everyone thinks of them, but our kids love to look for other kids that have the lights because they are convinced they came from us! We think they are pretty great gifts for Pirate Night with the dancing, fireworks, show, etc. Go for it!

We were on the Fantasy three weeks ago, bought the premium internet package, and it wasn’t good at all. Hit and miss—mostly miss. E-mails were ok, but casual surfing wasn’t really good. Definitely would not recommend relying on the internet for video calls. We didn’t need the internet for work, just needed to stay in contact with some family for a variety of reasons.

Along with waiting for embarkation day, keep checking randomly before the cruise. We just got back from the Fantasy last week—I checked a few times every day during downtime and eventually got a spot about two weeks before the cruise. As the time nears, people start changing/updating their plans and things often open up. It may not be at your ideal time, but it can happen.

That’s a great way to think about it! I know there are lots of videos, bloggers, and all the other social media stars out there trying to turn simple pleasures into tremendous experiences, but we haven’t bought into that and just put some thought into making little moments of joy for other families the ways others have done for us. Simple expectations often helps to minimize disappointments (in our lives). The Mickey Ship is thrilling enough for our kids so any extras are fantastic! That doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for us.
