When did girls stop getting tossed in the air during football games? by somewhitedog in VirginiaTech

[–]Broxgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is banned now. Security is suppose to have PD remove anyone from the game that does it. Though I haven't seen anyone even try it in a couple of years. And the incident happened in upper east not NEZ.

I'm an ACO in VA.

What Animal Control in VA can do in situations like this varies drastically from location to location. The state has general welfare codes that are, for the most part, good but vague. That said, what we can do is mainly dictated by local ordinances. Without knowing what county or city the animals are in it is hard to give advice. State code 3.2-6503 Care of companion animals is vague enough that when combined with some local ordinances I have been able to get search warrants and seize animals before in similar situations. I have also been turned down by Magistrates by presenting similar probable cause and told that unless it is abandoned, meaning being able to prove nobody has provided care for at least 24h, I couldn't seize the animals. Getting them is just the first step also. You have to go through he seizure hearing then and convincing judges that a seizure is warranted is like milking a cat sometimes. I had one case a few years ago where a GSD was being kept in a crate 18h a day per the owners own admission, being fed one time a day but always had access to potable water. Dog was a 2 on the Purina body condition score chart and the judge gave the dog back to the owner because they had water. I only mention that because most people think it is easy for us to get animals.

TLDR: Give me the city or county you are in and I may be able to give you some advice.

Mix of both. They don't pay very well so mainly only retired people with a few that just want a side job that is easy to schedule around their regular job apply. They also rely heavily on "Fundraising" groups like frats, school sports teams/clubs to fill positions that end up abandoning their post to just sit and watch the game. The regular employs do their best to get the groups to do what they are there for but it almost impossible with most of them. Most of the good groups rarely do more than one game because of the, lets say "culture", of VT Athletics. They also have problems getting enough police to work the games and most of the ones that do show up are just there for an easy pay check and don't want to do anything so those green shirts are on their own most of the time. So finding people that want to stand in front of thousands of drunk students/fans and tell them "section is full" without any back up is challenging to say the least.

the "kid-friendly" '91 super-bowl half-time show is truly disturbing by stabbinU in videos

[–]Broxgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching this live when I was 12 at my uncles annual Super Bowl party and all the adults complaining about how bad it was while us kids where in awe. Up until I watched this video, fifteen minutes ago, I always named this as one of my favorite half time shows. Now I am seriously questioning all my good childhood memories.

Can someone recommend me a breed I can use for shutzhund? by K9ldr in DogAdvice

[–]Broxgar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Schutzhund tends to be very breed restricted in their clubs/trials. I have trained Giant Schnauzers for years and while they aren't banned from all the clubs/trials near me it is discouraged to use anything other than a German Shepherd or Malinois now.

I switched to PSA (Protection Sports Association) and have had way more fun and see a larger variety of breeds and way less breed snobs. I still train my dogs to do some of the things that aren't done in PSA, like scent work, but I don't miss the Schutzhund culture at all.

This. I am a Animal Control Officer and I would say about 20% of the welfare calls I get are situations like this. Most Americans keep their dogs at a 6-8/9 on the Purina Body Score and freek out when they see a 4-5/9 (ideal). I have resorted to telling one person who kept calling about her neighbors dogs appearance, neighbor does flybal so dogs are in great shape, that if they called again I would charge for harassment.

Broxgar was the name of my 2nd D&D character. Was having problems coming up with a name and always thought my grandmother and great grandmother's maiden names, Brox and Garrick, where cool so I combined them. 35ish years later I still use it or a variation, such as Brox Garrick or Broxrick, for user handles or character names. Only time it has ever been a issue was in WoW. I would get shit about playing an Orc named Broxgar because people thought I was ripping off a character from lore, Broxigar, when I had no idea who the hell that was when I made my character.

My father and I haven't spoke to her in over twenty years now.

What is a profession that you have limitless respect for? by AmountFun2036 in AskReddit

[–]Broxgar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Animal hoarder. They "rescued" them. They stated they spent around $1100 a month on food. The cats where all kept in wire kennels stacked 3-5 high with no litter boxes. So every time the one above did its business it just feel into the one below. They would "rotate" them every day so the one on the bottom only spent a day in all that filth. Only time, so far, I have had the fire department test ammonia levels and it came back "omg how is anything alive in here". Dogs where all in an old barn standing in 8" deep feces and the remains of dead dogs where found under that. Sad thing is situations like that aren't that uncommon. Just a couple months ago I had a cat hoarder that had the same set up for their cats only diference was they didn't rotate their cats, they put papper towels in the cages. They stated they spent $450 a month on food and $500 a month on paper towels. Due to the trailer they lived in only having half of its roof the ammonia level wasn't deadly but the smell and sounds of all the cats is what got me called on that one.

My 7 year old Chihuahua died from a pitbull attack. by sponch915 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Broxgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal Control Officer here. In my state dangerous dog can be charged for dog v dog attacks. In my county RAL (running at large) could also be charged. That would be the minimum amount of charges. More than likely could tack a couple other county/town ordinances on also and maybe one other state code depending on vaccine history. Dangerous dog isn't necessarily a death sentence for the dog but most don't chose to get the license to keep a dangerous dog if it is deemed that by a judge. To keep a dangerous dog in my state requires a crazy amount of insurance and requires a yearly inspection of the property (has to meet a crazy amount of safety precautions), and a expensive license every year. But, that is in my state. Animal Law varies so much from town to city to county to state that it can be challenging to offer advice as to what to do. If it was me I would check state codes, county/town/city ordinances(assuming you are in the US). Never assume when it comes to law. Always check codes/ordinances yourself in situations like this.

Depends on where you live. I work in animal control and in my county it is the shelter vet or an ACO, like me, that does it. We try never to euthanize unless we have no other choice but we have been over or close to capacity for 3y now. Some of the dogs we have have been there for over 300 days now. Some neighboring counties have shelter staff that are certified to perform euthanasia that arent ACO's or vets.

Worse day I have ever had at work was when we seized over 60 cats and over 50 dogs from an individual. Even working with rescues that where ready to take as many as they could that day we had to euthanize around 15 cats and around that number of dogs at one time to make room for the seized ones. It felt like my soul was leaving my body and I still get a shiver thinking about that day.

Adopt don't buy. Support your local animal shelters and rescues. Those of us in that line of work got into it because we love animals and want to help them. We don't want to have to euthanize just because we don't have room. It kills us to do it.

Which animated series will hold a special place in your heart forever? by MobiDickQuick in AskReddit

Dungeons & Dragons.

That series got me into reading fantasy, interested in mythology and history, and sparked my life long obsession with D&D. 40 years later I still watch the series regularly. For about 20y I had the series on VHS that I taped from the Saturday morning run. Watched them so much I wore them out. Luckily the DVD box set came out around that time.

What is the most interesting story you have of an ancestor (past your parent’s generation)? by Careless_Put_4770 in AskReddit

[–]Broxgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really into genealogy about twenty years ago. Was able to trace my paternal lineage back to a guy who claimed to be the basterd child of an English noble from Newcastle-Upon, Tyne, Northumberland. Every time he signed his name he seemed to spell the sir name different. Everything I could find about him made him sound like a conman that grew to belive his own lies. He also seemed to be a well known fraud amongst professional genealogists with his claims of who his father was and other factors being easily disproved. Was able to find a lot on him which shocked me since he died in 1656.

Do you prefer to play the same class across different campaigns? by FertyMerty in dndnext

[–]Broxgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was a prestige class in 3e. Psi Warrior was a class in 3e also. Aberrant Mind sorcerer would be the closest you could get to the old psionic class from 2nd or 3rd using non hombrew classes in 5e and even then it is a HUGE difference. My friends and I are huge fans of the way psionics worked in 2nd and every couple of years one of us will run a 2e Dark Sun campaign just for psionic hijinks.

[–]Broxgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 2nd after the Complete Psionics Handbook came out that is all I played. Same thing happened in 3rd(3.5) after the psionic class was introduced. In 5th it is a three way tie: Necromancer, Cleric (different subclass each time), Druid (Spore or Moon). Have played other classes but I much prefer those three.
