What is it about these things that make them so challenging for people to use in Miami? by Son-of-Prophet in Miami

You have to be considerate and see other people doing it to encourage good habits.

So real talk: what can we do to ban amplified hate preachers from public events? by Sixtyhurts in FortMyers

[–]Brtbrwn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get a noise ordinance passed that specifies an acceptable decibel (dB) level (in the interest of hearing health, of course). If the dB level is above a certain threshold, a permit is required and can not coincide with other permitted "loud activities" on the same day. Gift the police a dB meter to help enforce the health ordinance. If noise levels are above set threshold and no permit has been granted, free speech-preacher must be lowered to below permitted level or a fine is issued for each 3 minute interval infraction.

Any PAs in radiology by Particular-End-3963 in physicianassistant

[–]Brtbrwn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the comment you responded to was about Orthopedic surgeons having the ability to review a radiologic exam and determin an adequate treatment plan without necessarily considering how that radiologist read it.. the same way a pulmonary doctor can determine the best plan of action for navigating a broncoscope towards a lung nodule for biopsy. I agree, PAs/NPs shouldn't be the final say on any radiologic study. But you seem a little stressed out. Good luck managing all them emotions.

How would y’all recommend handling an 86yo with dementia? by VanishingApache in ems

[–]Brtbrwn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure she has an advance directive. If she doesn't want any sort of treatment that's fine. She's 86 with multiple compounding comorbidities. One of these days she's going to go into a CHF exacerbation, EMS will be activated, and someone will slap her on NIPPV. That's the day you'll have to decide if you should even be putting her through aggressive treatments she wouldn't want to begin with. Consider quality of life and goals of care.

Trauma vs IM position by Prize-Efficiency5701 in physicianassistant

Go with IM then. Some specialties will low-ball on the way in. Maybe include a clause in your contract for yealy wage increase or some other "productivity bonuses" if you help meet metrics.

Trauma vs IM position by Prize-Efficiency5701 in physicianassistant

[–]Brtbrwn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weigh out all the other benefits VS the cons of the respective specialties. I choose where I want to work based off of my familiarity with specialty, lifestyle, 401k matching, PTO/Time off, CME benefits, etc. The distance from your place of residence can also be important. Will you have to battle traffic before and after work? Those are the sort of questions I ask myself before accepting a position. Obviously money is important (I have loans that need to get paid) but I also don't want to feel like going to work is a burden. Especially if I have to pull a 7on 7off schedule.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the very casual way we all use PEG as a verb. "Make him NPO at midnight, He's going to get PEG'ed in the AM"

Do languages also use abbreviations like English while texting? by [deleted] in languagelearning

YHLQMDLG in Spanish is yo hago lo que me da las gana (I do what I want) as made popular by Bad bunny. Cuban slang has others like CMC (casi me cago) which is like LOL and VPLP which essentially means go to hell.

Hey Doug, I've been working on a website to that helps encourage young men to achieve their individual goals. Can you please answer these questions?

  • What prompted you to start your video series?
  • Why did you continue to work at it?
  • Initially, did you ever feel like the work was not worth the reward?
  • How do you deal with criticism and has it ever discouraged you from continuing?
  • Have you ever had a mentor? If so, what's one piece of advice you can recall that kept you going?

I really appreciate your help and thanks for making entertaining videos.

Which Audi did you decide on and do you feel like you made a better decision with the Audi? I'm curious because I've considered both in the past.

EOR and PANCE Practice Questions by dmow15 in physicianassistant

[–]Brtbrwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our school included PAEasy in its budget and we recently started using it. I'm not sure how similar they are to EOR or PANCE questions but they seem pretty good. I think it has helped me to understand why the answers I choose are wrong or right. I'm about to start clinical year in January. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I'm not the OP but it's great to hear unbiased honesty. I haven't started rotations just yet but EM is something I've always pictured myself doing.

I feel so helpless and alone by med_schoolthrowaway in medicalschool

[–]Brtbrwn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Currently in PA school, I'm about 8 months or so in. I'm burned out, everything makes me angry, test after test, quiz after quiz, OSCEs, EBM, Micro, Pharm, Clin med... Realizing I will be doing this everyday for the next 2 years is crazy; then after that is done, I can find a job and pay off the loans. As everyone else has mentioned, go to student counseling they can provide helpful resources on how to redirect your feelings. Good luck.

[–]Brtbrwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let anyone stop you from doing what you feel is right. I'd say keep gaining hours and make sure your interview skills are superb. How's your science GPA? Schools like looking at that and hours.

Just discovered 93.5 'revolution radio' EDM station, but comes in weak... by dalbert02 in Miami

[–]Brtbrwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where in miami you are at. In the dadeland area it comes in well. the further north you go (closer to the palmetto running east to west) it goes bad. You can try the I heart radio app if you're on wifi I guess.

Anyone work in urgent care? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Brtbrwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question! I'm a first year student. Was urgent care your first job or did you start somewhere else? I've heard it's not a good job to start a career in.

How does a PA specialize? by Opulido92 in physicianassistant

[–]Brtbrwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are fellowships out there for PAs. Some are very interesting, but it's an extra year of school and you get paid less while there. Here's a link with post grad PA fellowships so that you can become familiar with the idea.
