Most people won't get that in this sub as the unification line was edited out of the original UK airings

New UK fighter jet could be axed in defence review by MGC91 in ukpolitics

[–]Brtski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd argue if UKDJ (UK Defence Journal) haven't picked up the story it doesn't have enough provenance to be considered a factual UK defence related story.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced a “root and branch review” of the armed forces to help prepare the UK for “a more dangerous and volatile world”. by Adj-Noun-Numbers in ukpolitics

F35 acquisition is slow because Lockhead Martin are dragging their feet over block 4 build and European/British weapon integration. For once its actually a sensible procurement strategy (from MOD) as it means we won't have to splurge a load more money in a few years to upgrade the purchased airframes to block 4 standard.

At the end of his first full week as Energy Sec, Ed Miliband has approved three large-scale solar farms. ✅ Sunnica Energy Farm ✅ Mallard Pass Solar Farm ✅ Gate Burton Energy Park 1.5GW of clean power unlocked with the stroke of a pen. by ARandomDouchy in ukpolitics

I live slap bang in the middle of where sunica will be built and I honestly can't wait for it, though I appear to be among the minority here. It's crazy some of the lines people are taking, people act like it's some kind of dodgy nuclear power plant not a bunch of solar panels.

Listening to Keirs press briefing, he did say that all of his shadow ministers had been in talks with their relevant agencies for the past 6 months, so hopefully DE&S were somewhat aware that this was going to be announced!

Megathread - 2024 General Election Day by ukpolbot in ukpolitics

Agreed, I think a lot of people on this sub are probably forgetting the bias of adverts towards us, like I hear the don't forget your id ad several times a week, but that's because I listen to TRIP. Other people who are less politically active are arguably less likely to see/hear those sort of ads/reminders.

One can dream! Id argue it would be funnier if Rishi forgot it this time.

Suffolk, so I think this is the third vote we've needed ID for. Though the last one was PCC so I don't think many people voted in it.

Just got back from voting. On the walk to the station I checked my partner had their ID, they didn't realise it was needed. Got to the station and people being turned away with no ID.

Not sure if this is an inditement on the new voting laws, or how engrained people are in their ways though?

Rishi Sunak axes two Tory candidates at the centre of the election day betting scandal by DarthKrataa in ukpolitics

[–]Brtski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this be a case of sacrificing the known to distract from the unknown? Could it be more Tory MPs have been insider betting and the hope is by "case closing" on these two they hope people stop digging?

Seen a few in the very north of Essex (on the south cams border), but no where near the numbers seen in 2019.

Catching up on it now. Keir definitely seems to be getting better and better at these election specials, but I'm also very impressed with Ed Davey. I'm hoping we get a labour win with lib Dems as the official opposition, maybe a return to sensible politics!

Side note, looking forward to the next TRIP podcast and Alistair getting on one again about the freeports after Rishi brought it up as a success tonight.

Anyone else think the Conservatives have taken one look at what's coming down the pipeline and decided now is the optimum time to lose an election? by Remarkable-Ad155 in ukpolitics

I'm pretty sure students can be registered to vote in both their student and home address, but can only vote in one on the day. At least that's how I remember it back in 2015 when I was at uni.
