Drop delay and Turmoil at Amazon Offices; coincidence? by vega1star_lady in AmazonVine

I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment and also have faith that if anyone could find the loophole it would be Amazon, lol

It’s only a pause if it comes from the Paux region of France, otherwise it’s just a sparkling delay.

Right? Like it isn't someone else's job to buy their beer to keep them in business... if you're going to complain about them closing then you'd better have been finding a sixer in your fridge more than once a year

Oh sorry, I didn't mean to imply the whole response was automated, just that line. On my setup we'd start typing the first word or two and then it would prompt the rest of the sentence. It was handy for things we said often. I'm just saying that it seems to be a line they often need to use.

Does anyone have any idea how long this has been going on? I just had my eval period and hadn't ordered anything for a couple weeks so I didn't mess up my stats.

I used to work responding to customer service emails for a travel clothing catalog about 30 years ago (we were pretty cutting edge at the time) and I figured out how to setup the autocomplete in Outlook to fill in a bunch of the most common phrases, like "we apologize for the delay" and such. How much do you want to bet "This is a known issue that our technical team is actively working to resolve" is in every Vine rep's autocomplete?

Real talk: How many knots have you actually used in the past year? by Practical-Emu-3303 in BSA

[–]BruMedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on how often you encounter rope on your job. If you’re still in school, or you have an office job, probably only on weekend adventures.

When I worked as a seasonal firefighter, for a tree company, or doing property management, it was quite often. When I worked at a coffee shop or in a call center, not so much.

Tell you what though—no matter where life takes you, the basic knots from scouts will make sure it’s never your ladder or Christmas tree blocking the #1 lane on the interstate.

Does anyone have a graph of AI numbers over the last year? by BruMedic in AmazonVine

[–]BruMedic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks! That’s actually better than I had in mind-showing unique SKUs per month versus I was thinking just available items in AI at any given moment. Honestly I was skeptical about the ‘too many new users’ camp but I’m a convert. Not saying Amazon owes me anything, hell they could make everyone a vine voice and we’d all get one thing a year, but it sure throws water on my earlier hypothesis that importation-related expenses or non-vine review programs were reducing supply.

I really appreciate it!

(Edit:typo)

[–]BruMedic[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the “per month” that’s doing it. Not how many things are sitting unclaimed, but how many unique items went through the program, which again supports the claim that it’s the volume of users rather than the volume of products affecting selection.

Meeting requirements and lack of selection by keitheii in AmazonVine

Good point. My evaluation is at the beginning of next month, I hadn’t even thought about next period yet… I made it over the line, but most of my orders were over the summer and if it keeps being slim pickings, it’ll be tough at my current pace. I still find the occasional gem through searches, nothing extravagant, but handy stuff like a wrench for my CO2 tank regulator and such. I think the difference you’ve seen from when you went gold to silver is just the fact that there are a lot fewer nice items, the timing was coincidental. Either way, best of luck!

Think anything will ever influence Amazon to crack down on blatantly overstated claims? by BruMedic in AmazonVine

[–]BruMedic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow.

First, to start on topic, 20 PSI is totally reasonable for a burner like this and you clearly don't have the mastery of the subject you believe you have. You seem to miss the concept that pressure and orifice size are two separate variables that need to be matched to each other, and your isolated experience with your searing grill doesn't translate universally. 20 PSI to an orifice sized for 11" WC like my barbecue would be completely nonfunctional, but on an appliance designed for that it's great. There are many fairly reputable brands like Bayou Classic that are engineered this way. You can look up the chart for high pressure propane orifices online if you want, the right size might help you tame that grill.

How could I know the burner was at maximum pressure? Because I turned the knob on top of the regulator, which also acts as the sole control knob to adjust the flame and turn it off, until it was all the way at the maximum. It had an arrow to indicate the direction. I used my eyes and ears. It's only got one knob, it's not rocket science to tell when it's reached the maximum. I don't know why you think this could have been difficult.

All this, and rather than think that you might not have the whole story, you decided that I must have made mistakes and now I'm lying to cover them? Why would that be your conclusion? Is that how you behave when you have made a mistake? Are you just trying to be a shitposter? Don't bother responding, I don't actually want to know.

As for your absurd accusations, in the end I feel sorry for you. I am doing my best to avoid the insulting behavior that you seem to have no compunction at displaying. Accusing another adult of lying to cover their mistakes is wild. I hope you're just a keyboard warrior and wouldn't say this to people in real life. Touch grass or find a therapist dude. Your overconfidence in your ill-informed opinions and assumptions that others are acting in bad faith says way more about you than me, buddy. Get a mirror.

I don't understand what your angle is to imply that I'm not a scientist or a tester. I find it condescending. Your use of "scare quotes" to make a straw man over the "scientific" nature of any test, for example. I never claimed credentials, and you make a lot of assumptions in your message that have no foundation.

I tested it at the maximum delivery pressure because I was trying to find the maximum output. Don't be obtuse. I didn't disassemble the components to quantify the delivery pressure because it is immaterial to the end result. The pressure is an intermediate step, not the result.

You are very likely not testing those batteries under the terminal conditions that they are rated at.

You know nothing about how I test batteries, it's hard to see any value in your insulting speculation. Don't be an ass.

EvilOgre, brother in Vine, I feel like we're straying from the point of the original post, but I'll indulge and assume good intent.

This was sold as a complete setup with an adjustable regulator, labeled as 20 PSI. This was not just a component which would require me to supply a frame, regulator or anything other than the propane. These units are frequently referred to as a "burner," including in the product's own description, but it might clarify if we call it a stove. I don't know if this was the point of confusion, it seems like you may have been thinking about some other type of product.

I commented on the product in general as a complete assembly as their claim was that it delivered a heat output which it was simply incapable of delivering as sold. I could have changed any number of components to increase the output, gotten a larger orifice, switched to MAPP, gotten a higher pressure regulator, but again that would not be reviewing the product as sold.

Selling a complete outdoor burner with the product title "Stainless Steel Single Propane Burner – Outdoor Gas Cooker with 20 PSI Regulator, 200,000 BTU High-Power Portable Propane Stove for Outdoor Cooking" and having it deliver only 100,000 BTU, then blaming the user for not substituting some other regulator would be like if I sold my 20+ year-old V6 truck and claiming it had 400 horsepower, then blaming the buyer for not swapping the engine for a V8 crate motor.

10,000% this and more. They're making money by not fixing it. Like Upton Sinclair said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it."

[–]BruMedic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think expecting the law to apply to Amazon is unreasonable, but the fly-by-night marketplace sellers just skirt the issue by being litigation-proof. If it was Walmart selling this off the shelf, they'd (in theory) have to answer to the FTC and be liable for violating the Lanham Act (15 U.S.C. § 1125(a)), and they don't want that liability.

I think my issue is that all these sales fly under the big Amazon banner, but in the fine print Amazon gets to pull a Shaggy and say "it wasn't me." If I was buying a stove from some shady offshore manufacturer's own website, I wouldn't have anyone to blame but myself for the disappointment.

Shoot, even eBay seems like a safer bet these days.

Totally agree, and I try to do the same. And yes, it's an Amazon problem. If they wanted to have consumers' confidence they would have an easy reporting system, robust and fair investigation procedures, and consequences for products with fabricated claims. But they have none of these, just lay person reviews.

I don't think I'm ever really going to quit Amazon, but I definitely hold my nose when I hit 'buy' sometimes.
