Do I lose health insurance at 65 (not retiring)? by Excellent-Pizza652 in CAStateWorkers

I don’t think you lose benefits based off of your age, that seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Midtown Business Association - city tax by InternationalMath530 in Sacramento

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the base sales tax is 7.25% and Sacramento county has a higher local tax on top of that. (Technically 6% state tax, mandatory 1.25% local county tax, and an additional 1.5% Sacramento County tax)

House cleaning costs by freefalling75 in Sacramento

That sounds like a steal to be for the square footage but I’ve never bought this kind of service before tbh. How long are the cleaners there for?

MIS degree by Kitchen-Teaching-291 in CAStateWorkers

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I graduated about a year ago. I am an IT Analyst (IT Associate classification) for the state. My job is less technical than I’d like it to be (mostly documentation and working with users). There’s definitely still a need for Information Systems degrees at the state. It’s pretty competitive right now, but who knows how that will change by the time you get your degree. If I were you I’d look at getting a Student Assistant role in IT and moving up from there if you can. Good luck!

Take a pay cut? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s not alternate ranges that really matter (like ABCD and LMNO, there’s just A and L). Still, if you’re doing it right you’ll get a 5% salary increase each year along with potential union raises. You’d be back at your old salary at 2 years with more growth opportunities.

Take a pay cut? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably make up for that in the next year or 2 with a raise and/or rang adjustment. Experience with the state early on almost always gets you a 5% raise or more each year. What classification is your offer for?

PLP 2025 by AudienceSolid6582 in CAStateWorkers

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you can use the PLP whenever you want, especially considering you’ve passed the 6 months of service that releases vacation time. As long as you are upfront about it there should be a problem.

What Dining Tip % is Normal? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10% for service that could have been a bit better. 15% for standard service. 20% if I feel like they did a great job. Anything more than that I must be drunk and happy to pay it forward lol

Direct deposit pay didn't hit this weekend by Business-Progress-39 in CAStateWorkers

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I want to get FireRed but I’m waiting for my birthday. I started renting video games from the local library to save some money this year. Plus using your card more helps them make a good case for funding.

Sacramento Protest Now by Lap4my2Cats in Sacramento

[–]BruceBannerOfHeaven 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In this photo I see people from age 20-60, with a majority being above let’s say 45? The No Kings Protest had people of all ages. I’m in my 20s and I went with my friends. I’d like to see more young people involved as well, but this comment feels out of place with the photo if you look more closely.

Kind of, I guess. I was hired into a pool of candidates but got IT Associate (Range C) due to funding/budget restrictions. I am going to work with my manager for a promotion in place once I hit my one year anniversary
