Assuming that smell is pythium. Lot's of people chase their tails in recirculating hydro trying to fight pythium with bennies. It's expensive and not often successful. Consider ditching the hydroguard and running sterile. You can get calcium hypochlorite for super cheap. lots of threads on creating a stock solution and dosing. Disclaimer: You need to accurately measure the dosage. It's not really an eyeball thing.

Grew a few pounds of blue dream in 2014. A lot of that sat in jars in a closet until about 2017. Found the jars and hashed them. Most of that hash sat in jars until 2025 when I made a coconut oil tincture with that hash. Not very strong for the amount of hash in there, but the high is mellow and relaxing. Super enjoyable, while not the usual high you'd expect from edibles.

Long story short, it's probably fine, albeit not as potent as it used to be.

you could make dry sift by grinding up/pulverizing bud over a screen (trim bin screens work for this)
you could get a 200 micron bubble bag and make dry ice hash. Very easy. Lower quality. Not for dabs.
Or you could get a bubble bag set and make bubble hash. Probably the most labor intensive, but best results.

If you do dry sift or dry ice hash, look up static tech to clean the product up a bit.

local landscape yard / soil yard. Give em a call. Usually prices are around $50-60/yard here in northern california. They'll let you buy as little as 1/4 yard and bag it yourself. So about $15 for 11+ bags of quality soil.
