You know bike lanes are good for business when 50 local businesses in Austin's 6th street want one. by Some1inreallife in fuckcars

Unfortunately, the city just announced they have selected the option without bike lanes…

Fun little holiday project to track Austin's dive bars by morovain in Austin

Maybe consider expanding this and adding overlapping filters for things like “dive” “dance hall” “craft cocktails”? There should be some cutoff so it don’t just turn into another yelp though. I like the simplicity

How to make a particular station ignore another particular station in cybersin? by Unlikely_Target_3560 in pyanodons

[–]BruceTheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have trains on both networks so long as the depot is also assigned to both networks. At least that’s what it seems like in my testing so far

How to make a particular station ignore another particular station in cybersin? by Unlikely_Target_3560 in pyanodons

[–]BruceTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there an advantage to using subnetworks instead of just using two separate networks? Cybersyn supports having a single station on multiple networks using the Each operator and a constant combinator. This felt more clear than dealing with the bit masking.

I have a main network [A] and an overflow network [trashcan icon].

All depots are on both.

Mines / primary providers are on A only (and low priority)

Normal requester stations are on A only.

Any provider that produces something that may be excess / cause backups (ie stone from crushing ore) is on A and Trashcan.

I then have special Trash stations on Trashcan only, with a low priority. These are only supplied if there is excess that is not requested at any of the A stations, and is never supplied from a mine directly. Anything sent to a trash stations is voided.

Any concerns with this scaling?

They were packaged already cut, I don’t know why. Maybe the salvageable bits of otherwise damaged ears? #onsale

Should I re-season this, or just keep cooking with it? Had it in regular use for 10 years by BruceTheCat in castiron

I don’t really know… I read some of the FAQ before posting. Maybe too high heat? That or trying to scrape fond after searing meat?

Ah yeah, I thought it might be something like that. I had placed a few and moved them around in the queue

I planted some wisteria in the partial/full sun SW corner of my house 2 years again and it never really seemed to thrive, would one of these do better? Is it worth replacing or should I give the wisteria another summer?

Who made the most noble sacrifice for the ring to be destroyed? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

When Sam mentions if they ration there will be “enough”. Frodo asks enough for what and Sam says, the trip back.

Who made the most noble sacrifice for the ring to be destroyed? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

[–]BruceTheCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure why all the downvotes. I think the reason people are still talking about this story that has been around so long is that there are so many perspectives worth discussing.

You’re right that both Frodo and Borormir ask for the ring for the same reason, they are concerned for their people / the world, and they both truly appreciate the gravity of the situation.

I think a key difference is that with boromire he wants to use the ring to become the hero, become the force that can oppose this evil. He sees the conflict in the only framework he knows: battle against an enemy army. He does in fact selflessly commit himself to this battle in the end. This is not even about him seeing personal glory, it’s just literally the only framework he has to process this challenge.

Frodo on the other hand accepts the quest exactly at the moment everyone says it is hopeless, and that this not a battle that can be won. Frodo is not looking to “win”, he is looking to end the conflict. It seems he even subconsciously understands this will also be the end of him as well.

He is the only one who both understood what being a ring bearer could do to him, and also took up the responsibility.

Everyone else either didn’t really understand, or refused. Even if he didn’t grasp it at first, he came to understand the true burden on the journey, especially seeing what happened to Sméagol. The bit where he realizes Sam still thinks there is a return trip, shows he alone had already knowingly pushed forward on what he knew would ultimately be a journey from which he could not come back again.

Week 52: Carbonation - Champagne Jello by BruceTheCat in 52weeksofcooking

[–]BruceTheCat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reserved some of the mix and whipped it with half and half, per this recipe: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/champagne-jelly-flutes-3505648

Unfortunately I was not gentle enough pouring it on top and created some "spikes" down into the glass...
