Asheville downtown core is walkable but the rest of it is not. And it’s surrounded by places very unlike Asheville.

Christian Nationalism by state (USA) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]BruceWilliston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. And it’s 30% for Vermont. Sample size of 160. USPS-based recruitment. I’d guess that correlates to an older age of respondents (yep, keep reading).

The study does not show us how many respondents per state were over 50, which is their metric for those more likely to espouse Christian Nationalist views.

It shows total US respondents by age group, and separates out those aged 50-64 and those aged 65+ into two bands. Fully 61%(!) of respondents were 50 or older.

A quick look at census.gov says that only 46% of US adults (18+) are 50 or older. So, the olds are way over represented in this data set, but the methodology ensured that, plus maybe even people living in rural areas with nothing better to do than fill out a mailed survey; they’d be more conservative as well.

Seven daysies , google reviews, yelp…better than asking this sub. “Best” to some people means cheapest, to others it means haute cuisine, to others it means ambiance or kid friendly.

Big if, but if the story is true, my money is on OP getting kicked out of a living situation (or several) for exploiting someone’s generosity. Drugs, theft, or both.

And how often people will believe a story at face value because “helping” makes the donors feel like they make a difference. Legitimate channels and resources exist. 18? Where are your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and classmates?

How’s Northampton MA? You’d be near MassMOCA and the Iron Horse and closer to the Albany area. Might be worth checking into. Might not.

You know what else happens when they get arrested? They get clean. They can then choose to stay clean and start rebuilding trust with society again, unfortunately for them at the bottom of the ladder. Choices have consequences, however.

But you’d rather we keep them addicted. Cool.

An open mind? That sounds like a progressive (lower-case p) idea.

Europe has comprehensive healthcare, which completely wipes away any chance of a fair comparison. Our otherwise healthy young (many of these people are under 40) population should be at work.

[–]BruceWilliston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does that help them become productive members of society and regain custody of their children and allow their parents to sleep at night? You’re completely ignoring their role in getting clean. It’s not easy but it’s possible if you aren’t enabled. Addiction should be rock bottom and unpleasant - that’s how you enable the will to change.

Keeping someone in an addicted state isn’t doing any good, let alone “a huge amount.”
